WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Sophomore
Zoe Isom enjoyed a breakout performance leading Midwestern State to a 2-1 win over UT Permian Basin in Game 2 Saturday afternoon at Mustangs Park.
The right-handed starter from Midlothian delivered her first complete game holding the Falcons to a run on six hits while matching a season high with four strikeouts to earn her first win with the Maroon & Gold.
Isom also shined in her first showing in the batter's box for MSU. She drilled a ringing double on a one-hopper to the left-field fence in the third inning, then was aggressive on the base paths in the fifth inning scoring from second base on an infield single in the fifth to tie the game at 1-1.
UT Permian Basin drew first blood in the top of the inning loading the bases on a hit batsman, a bunt single, and a flare to right field with one out, but Isom limited the Falcons to a single run on freshman Taylen Thurman's sacrifice fly.

Jessika Roberts delivered a sacrifice fly just deep enough to left field to plate the go-ahead run for the Mustangs.

Paige Bryant logged her second two-hit game of the season to lead MSU's seven-hit attack.
UT Permian Basin senior Abby Cousins took the loss to fall to 2-4 despite holding the Mustangs to two runs on seven hits with five strikeouts.

Freshman
Maegan Shannon drilled a two-run homer to center field in the first inning, while
Allie Monroe delivered an RBI-single in the third to stake Midwestern State to a 3-0 lead in the opening game of the series against UT Permian Basin Saturday at Mustangs Park.
But MSU was unable to hold off the Falcons, who put up six runs in the sixth inning to come away with a 7-4 win.
Aryell Aguiar went 3-for-3 and delivered a two-run single in the decisive sixth inning as the Falcons sent 11 batters to the plate and scored four unearned runs to take control of the game.
Monroe tacked on a fourth run for the Mustangs in the seventh inning lining a triple to right field, then came plate ward with the relay throw sailed over the fence past third base.
Monroe finished the opener with her seventh multiple-hit performance going 2-for4 with an RBI and run scored, while
Sydney Shimkus and
Lexi Mills also recorded a pair of safeties for the Mustangs.
Senior Destini Trahan improved to 2-9 in the circle for the Falcons, permitting two earned runs on seven hits with two strikeouts in the complete game victory.
Sidney Gonzales (1-5) took the loss in relief for the Mustangs.
