Mustangs set to host three-day, 14-game MSU Round-Up

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State hosts the seven-team, 14-game MSU Round-Up on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at Mustangs Park.

The Mustangs play three games in the classic including a Saturday night showdown with Oklahoma Baptist before facing Northwestern Oklahoma State and Southwestern Oklahoma State on Sunday.

Friday, Feb. 10

Fort Hays State (Kan.) vs. Oklahoma Baptist, 9 a.m.
Rockhurst (Mo.) vs. Fort Hays State, 11:30 a.m.
Oklahoma Baptist vs. Cameron, 2 p.m.
Southwestern Oklahoma vs. Rockhurst, 4:30 p.m.
Cameron vs. Northwestern Oklahoma, 7 p.m.

Saturday, Feb. 11

ABOUT THE MUSTANGS | Brittanie Talley begins her second season at the helm at Midwestern State. The Mustangs were picked to finish 13th in the Lone Star Conference Preseason Poll after posting an 8-37 record in 2022. MSU began this season going 0-4 against a very tough field at the Mardi Gras Invitational in Youngsville La.

MSU HITTING NOTES | The Mustangs have a team batting average of .176 (16-of-91) through the first four games of the season and are averaging 1.25 runs per game... Freshman second baseman Kayla Bryant leads the Mustangs hitting .500 (5-for-10) with a triple and two RBIs... Bryant collected hits in three of four games for the Mustangs including two-hit performances against Southeastern Oklahoma and Southern Arkansas... Freshman catcher Megan Ayala is 3-for-4 (.750) with a team-high two doubles while scoring two runs... Ayala reached base in four of her five plate appearances including a double and a walk against Southeastern Oklahoma, while going 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored with a stolen base against Southern Arkansas... Junior shortstop Chloe Bryant is hitting .273 (3-for-11) with a run scored while stealing a team-best four bases...

MSU PITCHING NOTES | The Mustangs have posted a 6.72 team ERA through the first four games of the season... Sophomore Taylor McKenzie made two starts with a complete game posting a 0-2 record with a 5.42 ERA... McKenzie delivered MSU's best performance of the weekend allowing three earned runs on seven hits against Oklahoma Baptist... Junior Kennedy Cameron made two starts posting an 0-2 record with a 12.00 ERA... Freshman Jasmine Trevino pitched 3 2/3 innings of 1-hit, scoreless relief against Harding... Junior Christine Billmeier permitted an unearned run on a hit in one hitting of relief versus Southeastern Oklahoma...
 

THIS WEEK'S OPPONENTS

OKLAHOMA BAPTIST | Saturday, Feb. 11 | 7 p.m.
- Oklahoma Baptist rolled to five-consecutive wins at the Mardi Gras Invitational. The Bison outscored the opposition 26-2 including victories over Delta State, No. 6 Texas A&M-Kingsville, Midwestern State, Union (Tenn.), and Mississippi College.
- Senior shortstop Emily Adler led OBU hitting .529 (9-for-17), while driving in seven runs and stealing four bases.
- Senior Kayleigh Jones permitted just one run on seven hits in 19 innings while winning three starts against Delta State, Texas A&M-Kingsville, and Mississippi College. The 5-10 right-hander recorded 30 strikeouts to four walks in 19 innings.
- Midwestern State and Oklahoma Baptist meet for the fifth time on the diamond. The Mustangs and Bisons split the previous four meetings with OBU winning the last two including a 3-0 win last week in the Mardi Gras Invitation. Oklahoma Baptist will make its first appearance at Mustangs Park.

NORTHWESTERN OKLAHOMA STATE | Sunday, Feb. 12 | 10 a.m.
- Northwestern Oklahoma State was swept by Newman (Kan.) Tuesday afternoon in Alva to fall to 1-4.
- Senior Raegyn Parrish leads the Rangers in hitting with a .545 batting average with a double and three RBI.
- Senior Hannah Howell permitted one earned run on five hits in a seven inning Tuesday against Newman to lower her season ERA 0.88. She also connected on NWOSU's first homer of the season -- a two-run shot.
- Northwestern Oklahoma State was picked to finish at the bottom of the 12-team Great American Conference in the league's preseason poll.
- Midwestern State and Northwestern Oklahoma State meet for the fourth time on the diamond. The Mustangs have won two of the previous three meetings -- all played in Wichita Falls.

SOUTHWESTERN OKLAHOMA STATE | Sunday, Feb. 12 | 3 p.m.
- Southwestern Oklahoma State went 1-3 at the Lubbock Christian Invitational last weekend including an 11-7 win over Newman (Kan.). The Bulldogs took losses against Nebraska-Kearney (2-1), No. 22 Washburn (4-1), and No. 21 Lubbock Christian (9-1).
- Sophomore shortstop Maddie Rahon leads the SWOSU attack hitting .417 with a double, a homer, and two RBIs.
- Junior Jordyn Waldley belted two homers and drove in six runs in SWOSU's win over Newman.
- Junior Taryn Westbrook leads the Bulldogs in the circle posting an 0-2 record with a 2.92 ERA.
- The Bulldogs were picked to finish 11th in the Great American Conference preseason poll.
- Midwestern State and Southwestern Oklahoma meet for the 38th time on the diamond. The Mustangs lead the overall series, 30-7, and have won the last four meetings. MSU is 15-3 all-time against the Bulldogs in Wichita Falls.
