KEARNEY, Nebraska -- Midwestern State polished off a perfect opening weekend with a 6-1 win over Augustana (S.D.) Saturday afternoon at Ernest Grundy Tennis Center.
The Mustangs added a successful trip to Kearney by adding another win to previous victories over Newman (Kan.) and Metro State Denver.
Midwestern State returns to the courts Friday against Northwest Missouri State in Edmond before returning home to play Southeastern Oklahoma on Saturday.
Freshman
Killian Guillou swept his way to four combined wins going a perfect 3-0 in singles play after earning the nod at No. 3 doubles with
Stephen Slocombe in the final match on Saturday.
Guillou and Slocombe provided the clincher with a 6-4 win over Augustana's Tyson Cowger and Joseph Plachy.
Guillou found little resistance at No. 4 singles cinching the team win for his team with a 6-0, 7-6 (7-5) win over Meg Siritaworachan.
The freshman from Paris, France, won his previous matches in straight sets at No. 6.
The Mustangs also enjoyed straight-set wins with senior
Luis Diaz Argente beating Cade Damgaard 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2; freshman
Germano Setti beating Nick Lapoint 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3; sophomore
Stephen Slocombe beating Cowger 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5; and freshman
Philip Kamara beating Plachy 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6.
Augustana dropped its season opener for the second straight season.
