EDMOND, Oklahoma -- Marcal Miret Avante posted a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Mason Alexander Meier at No. 4 singles to earn the only point for Midwestern State in a 5-1 loss to Northwest Missouri at Lifetime Fitness on Saturday afternoon.
Germano Setti and Miret Avante captured No. 1 doubles, 6-1, over 10th-ranked Jan Skerbatis and Meier, but the Bearcats opened the day by taking the doubles point and earned its third consecutive win over the Mustangs.
Miret Avante has opened the season with a three-match winning streak in singles, and he is 3-1 at No. 1 doubles — playing alongside Setti.
Andrea Zamurri from Rieti, Italy, defeated
Charles Heffernan of MSU at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-1. Heffernan suffered his third consecutive loss and fell to 1-3 in singles.
Luis Diaz Argente was competitive at No. 2 singles but fell 7-5, 6-2 to Michael Delbois of Villa Cortese, Italy. Diaz Argente is 2-2 in four duals this season.
Setti pushed Fabien Calloud to the brink at No. 3 singles but was ultimately defeated, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5. Setti is 2-2 through four singles matches.
Skerbatis came out victorious at No. 5 singles, handing
Juan David Duque his first singles loss of the season, 6-3, 7-5.
Midwestern State plays on its home courts Saturday afternoon as the Mustangs host Southeastern Oklahoma at 2 p.m. at the MSU Tennis Center.
