KEARNEY, Nebraska -- Midwestern State breezed past Newman in its season-opening match at the brand new Ernest Grundy Center on Friday night. The Mustangs defeated the Jets, 7-0, and did not drop a set in singles.
Stephen Slocombe and
Charles Heffernan dropped their No. 2 doubles match to Luca Penteado and Gustavo Gil, 7-5, but that was the only match Newman would win.
Germano Setti and
Marcal Miret Avante scored a victory at No. 1 doubles over Pedja Kolaric and Andrea Bramati, 6-4.
Juan David Duque and Luis Diaz Aregente secured the doubles' point for Midwestern State with a 7-5 win over Al Mounir and Isfan Makhmudov at No. 3 doubles.
Juan David Duque coasted to a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Luca Penteado at No. 5 singles, and the rest of the Mustangs followed suit.
Luis Diaz Argente defeated Pedja Kolaric, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 2 singles.
Charles Heffernan handled Al Mounir at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-4.
Germano Setti coasted to a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Isfan Makhmudov at No. 3 singles to clinch the team victory.
Marcal Miret Avante opened his singles campaign with a 6-2, 7-5 triumph over Gustavo Gil at No. 4 singles.
Killian Guillou was also a straight-set winner at No. 6 singles, 6-3, 7-5, over Kurt Suarez Bruckner.
Midwestern State is back on the court Saturday morning at 8 a.m. against MSU Denver, and the Mustangs battle Augustana (S.D.) at 1 p.m.
