Mustangs, Rambelles square off for three-game LSC set Friday and Saturday

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State hosts Angelo State in a Lone Star Conference series Friday and Saturday at Mustangs Park.

The Mustangs and Rambelles play a single game Friday at 4 p.m. before closing the series with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 and 3 p.m.

The games are set for broadcast on the Lone Star Conference Digital Network at MSUMustangs.com/streaming.

All video streams on the LSC Digital Network are also available on Over-The-Top (OTT) apps on Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Android TV and Roku by searching "LSC Digital Network."

LAST TIME OUT | Midwestern State slugged four home runs including two by freshman Allie Monroe, but it wasn't enough to take a game from Cameron as the Aggies rolled to a sweep last weekend in Lawton. Cameron extended MSU's losing streak to 10 games as the Mustangs fell 1-15 on the season and to 0-9 in league play.

MUSTANGS TRACKS | Freshman Allie Monroe blasted her first two collegiate homers connected on both ends of Sunday's doubleheader at Cameron... Monroe leads the MSU attack hitting .323 and is also the team leader with three doubles and two homers while driving in eight runs... Monroe boasts a team-high four multi-hit games after going 2-for-3 with a double, a homer, and three RBIs in the second game of the doubleheader at Cameron... Junior utility player Levi Luna erupted for two hits including a run-scoring double Sunday at Cameron to raise her season average to .300... Sophomore Sydney Shimkus recorded her second two-hit performance of the season and scored two runs in Sunday's nightcap at Cameron... Freshman Maegan Shannon went back-to-back with Monroe to hit first collegiate home run in Game 1 Sunday at Cameron... Senior Payton Griffin drilled her 10th career homer and first of the season in the first inning of Game Sunday at Cameron... Freshman Jasmine Trevino heads the MSU pitching staff with a 2.67 ERA allowing seven runs on 13 hits in 18 1/3 innings...

THIS WEEK'S OPPONENT

ANGELO STATE (12-8, 4-5 LSC) - Angelo State rallied to take the final two games of its three-game series against No. 2-ranked UT Tyler last weekend in San Angelo. The 'Belles lost the opener 7-0 before takeing the final two games by a score of 3-2 with the finale extending to eight innings.
- Returning All-American and LSC Player of the Year Paxton Scheurer is second in the LSC and fifth in NCAA Division II with seven home run. The senior is on 35 career homers after hitting 23 in 2022.
- Two-time All-Lone Star Conference performer Ashlyn Lerma leads the nation with 28 stolen bases through the first 20 games of the season. The senior, who stole 51 bases in 2022, has ripped 116 bases during her five seasons in San Angelo. She also leads the 'Belles with a .453 batting average this season.
- Sophomore Cheyenne Floyd boasts a team-best 1.89 ERA while leading the Rambelles with 13 appearances. The Liberty Hill native has allowed eight earned runs on 23 hits in 29 2/3 innings with 28 strikeouts and nine walks.

ABOUT THE SERIES

- Midwestern State and Angelo State meet for the 60th, 61st, and 62nd time on the diamond Friday and Saturday at Mustangs Park.
- The Rambelles lead the series 41-18 and have the last 13 meetings against the Mustangs.
- Midwestern State last beat the Rambelles on April 3, 2016. Baylee Voigt mashed three hits and drove in four runs including her eighth home run of the season in a 10-8 win in the second game of a twin bill at Mustangs Park.
- MSU is 10-15 all time against the Rambelles in Wichita Falls, but Angelo State has won the last five at Mustangs Park.
