Departing seniors drive Mustangs to victory over Cameron in season finale

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Three departing seniors propelled Midwestern State to a 69-65 victory over Cameron in the season finale at D.L. Ligon Coliseum on Thursday night.

Shawnisay Millar scored a career-high 20 points. Mandy Withey had 10 points and nine rebounds. Sheridan Bostic was 3 of 4 from 3-point range and finished with nine points.

Millar, Withey and Bostic were all recognized for the contributions they made over the course of their careers at Midwestern State in a post-game ceremony.

HOW IT HAPPENED >>>

Alena Wilson's layup with 4:35 remaining in the first quarter gave Cameron a 6-0 lead over the Mustangs. Yasmine Sifaoui ended the drought for MSU 14 seconds later.

Natalie Stice hit her second 3-point shot with 1:42 to play in the first quarter, and Midwestern State took its first lead, 12-10. 

Millar and Bostic were a combined 5 of 6 from the field in the second quarter and each scored six points as the Mustangs took a 35-33 lead at halftime. Dyamon Griggs had six points and five rebounds in the first half.

Withey was 3 of 4 from the floor and scored eight points in the third quarter as Midwestern State took a 50-41 lead into the final period.

Katie King scored nine of her 16 points in the fourth quarter, hitting a 3-pointer with one second remaining to bring the Aggies within three points.

The Aggies shot 9 of 14 from the field in the final period, but Eternity Jackson sealed the victory for Midwestern State with a free throw to close out the game.
 

THE LEADERS >>>

- Millar scored 20 points on 7 of 13 shooting from the field and hit 6 of 11 free throws. Millar from Prestopans, Scotland, was recognized with the playing of the Scottish national anthem before the game.

- Withey scored in double figures for the seventh time this season with 10 points on 4 of 6 shooting from the field and was one rebound shy of her fifth double-double of the season.

- Bostic hit at least three shots from beyond the arc for the fifth time this season and finished with nine points.

- Jackson dished out four of the 16 assists for the Mustangs, who finished 25 of 54 from the field.

- Griggs played 19 minutes and finished with six points, seven rebounds and three assists for the Mustangs.

- Alena Wilson led Cameron with 19 points on 8 of 14 shooting. Katie King was the leading rebounder for the Aggies with nine boards.

GAME NOTES >>>

- Midwestern State snapped an eight-game losing streak overall and finished the season with a 6-22 record, and the Mustangs were 4-18 in conference play.
- The Mustangs ended a four-game skid at home and finished with a 5-10 record at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
- MSU ended the Aggies five-game winning streak in the series, and the Mustangs are 29-10 when hosting Cameron.
- Midwestern State leads the all-time series with the Aggies, 50-34.
- Cameron finishes the regular season 13-15 and is 10-12 in conference play, but the Aggies are awaiting the results of other games to see if they qualify for the LSC Postseason Tournament.
