MSU to host Lubbock Christian in mid-week LSC series Tuesday and Wednesday at Mustangs Park

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State takes on No. 8 Lubbock Christian for a mid-week Lone Star Conference series Tuesday and Wednesday at Mustangs Park.

The Mustangs and Lady Chaps play a single game on Tuesday at 6 p.m. before squaring off in a doubleheader on Wednesday. First pitches are set for noon and 2 p.m.

The games are set for broadcast on the Lone Star Conference Digital Network at MSUMustangs.com/streaming.

ABOUT THE MUSTANGS (1-9, 0-3 LSC) | Brittanie Talley is in her second season at the helm at Midwestern State after posting a 129-75 record in five seasons at Vernon College. The Mustangs were picked to finish 13th in the Lone Star Conference Preseason Poll after posting an 8-37 record in 2022.

LAST TIME OUT | Texas A&M International swept Midwestern State last weekend in Laredo taking the first two games on Friday by scores of 4-0 and 7-3. The Dustdevile then took the finale, 3-0, on Saturday. TAMIU's Erika Cortez recorded eight strikeouts in a one-hit shutout on Friday, then Carla Arrellano fanned eight in a two-hit shutout of the Mustangs on Saturday.

FLEXY LEXI | Junior Lexi Mills carries a three-game hitting streak into the mid-week series against Lubbock Christian to raise her batting average to .316. She crushed her first home run of the season Friday against Texas A&M International -- a three-run blast to center field.

AYALA LEADING WAY | Freshman catcher Megan Ayala leads the Mustangs with a .353 batting going 6-for-17 with two doubles. The Denton Guyer High School graduate boasts two-hit games this season against Southern Arkansas and in the second game of the series at Texas A&M International.

TREVINO FINDING GROOVE | Freshman Jasmine Trevino held Texas A&M International to three runs on six hits over six innings in her first collegiate start on Saturday. The Corpus Christi Carroll High School product boasts a team-best 1.62 ERA and 0.85 WHIP allowing three runs on seven this in 13 innings.

THIS WEEK'S OPPONENT

LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN (10-4, 0-3 LSC)
- No. 2-ranked UT Tyler swept the Lady Chaps in a Lone Star Conference-opening, three-game series last weekend at Maher Park in Lubbock. The Patriots took both ends of Friday's doubleheader -- 1-0 and 12-4 in five innings, then won Saturday's finale, 7-5.
- Lubbock Christian is 10-0 against teams not ranked in the NFCA Division II poll and 0-4 against ranked foes. The Lady Chaps also lost 2-0 to No. 22-ranked Washburn in the season opener.
- LCU will play its first three games this season away from Maner Park Tuesday and Wednesday.
- Lubbock Christian boasts a Lone Star Conference .380 team batting average with 35 doubles and 13 homers. The Lady Chaps are also busy on the base paths accounting for 32 stolen bases in 39 attempts.
- Senior Kasey Flores ranks third in the LSC with a .474 batting average with four doubles, a triple, six homers, and 20 RBIs. She is one of three Lady Chaps hitting higher than .400.
- Senior Tiarra Delrosario is hitting .429 with three doubles, a homer, and 10 RBIs.
- Junior Hope Banales is hitting .429 with seven doubles, two homers, and eight RBIs.
- Senior Berkeley Quinn is LCU's top base stealing threat with 10 swipes in 11 attempts.
- Lubbock Christian ranks third in the Lone Star Conference with a team ERA of 1.92. The Lady Chaps lead the league with 92 strikeouts in 101 innings, while limiting the opposition to a .172 batting average.
- Senior Taylor Franco is 3-3 and ranks third in the LSC with a 1.02 ERA. She has allowed six earned runs on 21 hits in 41 innings pitched with 46 strikeouts and 12 walks. Franco weaved her sixth career no-hitter in a 5-0 win over Minot State.

ABOUT THE SERIES

- Midwestern State and Lubbock Christian meet for the 10th, 11th, and 12th time on the diamond on Tuesday and Wednesday in Wichita Falls.
- The Lady Chaps own a 5-4 edge in the series that dates back to the 2015 season.
- Lubbock Christian has won the last four games in the series including sweeps in Lubbock in 2021 and their first trip to Wichita Falls in 2022.
