LAREDO, Texas -- Sophomore Carla Arrellano weaved a two-hit shutout and Texas A&M International completed a sweep of Midwestern State with a 3-0 win Saturday morning at Dustdevil Field.
Arrellano recorded a career-high eight strikeouts to improve to 2-2 on the season.
Texas A&M International took advantage of putting leadoff hitter on five of six innings advancing the runners with sacrifices each time.
The Dustdevils manufactured each of their scores with run-scoring singles by Kennedy Griego in the first inning, Tajanae Davis in the fifth, and Kristy Alanis in the sixth.
Despite facing TAMIU's small-ball tactics, Midwestern State freshman
Jasmine Trevino delivered a solid performance in her first career start in the circle.
The Corpus Christi native limited the Dustdevils to three runs on six hits over six innings.
Trevino tops the pitching staff with a 1.62 ERA holding the opposition to three runs on seven hits in 13 innings.
Junior
Paige Bryant laced a single through the left side of the infield in the third inning, while junior
Lexi Mills lined a single to left field in the fourth to account for MSU's two hits.
The Mustangs fell to 1-9 on the season and 0-3 in league play, while Texas A&M International leveled its season record at 7-7 while moving to 3-0 in the LSC.
Midwestern State welcomes No. 8 Lubbock Christian to Mustangs for a mid-week LSC series. The Mustangs and Lady Chaps play a single game Tuesday night at 6 p.m. and play a doubleheader Wednesday at noon and 2 p.m.
