LAREDO, Texas -- Midwestern State opens Lone Star Conference play with a three-game series Friday and Saturday at Dustdevil Softball Field.
The Mustangs and Dustdevils play a doubleheader Friday at noon and 2 p.m. before playing a single game on Saturday at noon.
The games are set for broadcast on the Lone Star Conference Digital Network at MSUMustangs.com/streaming.

ABOUT THE MUSTANGS (1-6) | Brittanie Talley is in her second season at the helm at Midwestern State after posting a 129-75 record in five seasons at Vernon College. The Mustangs were picked to finish 13th in the Lone Star Conference Preseason Poll after posting an 8-37 record in 2022.
BRYANT LEADS OFF | Freshman
Kayla Bryant leads the Mustangs with a .381 average with a double, a triple, and four RBIs. The second baseman ranks seventh in the Lone Star Conference and 35th in NCAA Division II averaging 0.14 triples per game.

Paige Bryant carries a four-game hitting streak into the weekend series at Texas A&M International. Overall, Bryant is hitting .333 with a double from her center field position.

Chloe Bryant ranks fifth in the Lone Star Conference and 21st in NCAA Division II while going 6-for-6 on stolen base opportunities.
ALLIE ON A ROE | Freshman outfielder
Allie Monroe has hits in her last five at bats following a 2-for-2 effort against Northwestern Oklahoma State with a 3-for-3 performance against Southwestern Oklahoma State. The Lawton native raised her season batting average to .417 with a double and three RBIs.
THAT BALL IS OUTTA HERE | Freshman
Madisen Mann blasted her first collegiate on a two-run shot to center field in the seventh inning Sunday against Southwestern Oklahoma. It was also the Mustangs' first homer of the season as a team.
STRONG DEBUTS | Junior
Kerris Cameron and sophomore
Sydney Shimkus each delivered two hits in their season debuts last weekend at the MSU Round-Up. Cameron went 2-for-4 with a run scored Saturday against Oklahoma Baptist, then Shimkus was 2-for-3 with an RBI Sunday against Southwestern Oklahoma.
STINGY LEVI | Levi Luna leads the Mustangs with a 1.62 ERA over 8 1/2 innings of relief. The junior from Victorville, Calif. has allowed a .219 opponent batting average permitting two earned runs on seven hits.
NEAR-PERFECT TREVINO | Freshman
Jasmine Trevino has allowed no runs on one hit with two strikeouts of 4 2/3 relief innings. She pitched 3 2/3 innings against Harding, then pitched a scoreless frame versus Oklahoma Baptist.
AND.. WITH THE SAVE | Freshman
Sydney Gonzales did not allow an earned run in 4 1/3 relief innings last weekend at the MSU Round-Up. She recorded her first collegiate save after pitching 1 2/3 innings of perfect relief in a 4-2 win over Northwestern Oklahoma State on Sunday.

TEXAS A&M INTERNATIONAL (4-7) - The Dustdevils are coming off of a 2-3 showing at Angelo State's George and Ola McCorkle Challenge. TAMIU claimed wins over East Central, but were swept in three games against No. 18-ranked Angelo State.
- TAMIU ranks 10th in the Lone Star Conference with a .244 team batting average, but rank second in all of NCAA Division II laying down 11 sacrifice bunts through the first 11 games of the season.
- Texas A&M International ranks 12th in the Lone Star Conference with a 4.14 team ERA, but registered shutouts in consecutive wins over Pittsburg State (Kan.) -- 1-0 on Feb. 4 -- and East Central -- 2-0 on Feb. 10.
- Sophomore corner infielder Jajanae Davis leads the Dustdevils at the dish hitting .324 with three doubles, two homers, and nine RBIs.
- Sophomore Carla Arellano is 1-2 in the circle posting a team-best 2.88 ERA allowing 10 earned on 26 hits in 24 1/3 innings with 16 strikeouts and four walks.
- Junior Erika Cortez boasts sensational numbers in the circle allowing 14 hits while posting 28 strikeouts and nine walks in 23 innings, but has allowed five home runs. She is 2-2 with a 3.65 ERA.

ABOUT THE SERIES
- Midwestern State and Texas A&M International meet for the 15th, 16th, and 17th time on the diamond this weekend in Laredo.
- The Mustangs own an 11-3 edge in the series that dates back to the 2008.
- Texas A&M International has won the only two games played in Laredo sweeping the -- 5-1 and 6-2 -- in 2021.
