WICHITA FALLS, Texas --Midwestern State outshot St. Edward's in the first half, 15-2, but the game was scoreless at halftime. The Hilltoppers took the lead in the early stages of the second half, and MSU was forced to rally in order to earn a draw at Stang Park on Saturday afternoon.
St. Edward's goalkeeper Daria Schlumbohm made four saves in the first half to keep the Hilltoppers in the game, and McKeena Keeley struck in the 46th minute to give St. Edward's a 1-0 lead. Caitlyn Gonzalez provided the service on a set piece near the corner flag, and Keeley headed in the first goal of the game.
In the second half, MSU outshot the Hilltoppers, 10-3, and forced Schlumbohm to make three more saves.
In the 73rd minute,
Averi Culver threw the ball toward the top right corner of the box.
Isabella Cruz was able to guide a loose ball in traffic toward
Lexi Beck.
The Mustangs leading goal scorer put a left-footed toe poke on frame, and Schlumbohm left a rebound in front of the goal.
Allessandra Romano responded quickly and scored for Midwestern State to tie the match.
Beck picked up her fourth assist of the season, and Romano scored her second goal of the year.
Freshman
Allison Dellis made her first collegiate start, and the Midwestern State goalkeeper made three saves in the draw.
McKenna Jenkins took six shots, and
Cassidy Savoy took five for the Mustangs, who finished the match outshooting the Hilltoppers, 25-5. Midwestern State put eight shots on goal, and St. Edward's finished with four of its five shots on goal.
Midwestern State took 11 corner kicks, and St. Edward's had just one.
The Mustangs committed seven of the nine fouls called in the match.
Midwestern State is 5-3-3 overall this season with a 2-2-1 record in conference play. St. Edward's is 4-2-2 with a 3-1-1 conference record.
The Mustangs are on the road to face Oklahoma Christian on Wednesday afternoon. Kickoff at Eagle Soccer Field is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
