DALLAS -- No. 2 Midwestern State rolled to a 3-0 win over Dallas Baptist in its Lone Star Conference opener Wednesday afternoon at Patriot Soccer Field.
The Mustangs improved to 9-0-1 and are unbeaten through the first 10 matches of the season for the first time since the 2018 squad started the campaign unbeaten through 12 games.
Midwestern State proved dominate in every facet against Patriots, who fell to 3-5-1.
The Mustangs controlled an 11-1 edge on corner kicks and a 15-6 shot advantage while possessing ball for 68 percent of the match.
Senior midfield
Jack Larkin struck for the opener in the 25th minute by scoring his fourth goal of the season. Larkin ran on to a perfectly struck through ball by
Mere Escobar, then confidently beat DBU goalkeeper Patrick Banich to the far post on a shot from 15 yards out on the left wing.
The Mustangs expanded the lead early in the second half when senior midfield
Maycol Reyes settled a deflection off of a corner kick, moved past a defender and drilled his second goal of the season into the upper left corner of the net in the 50th minute.
Junior striker
Liam Pritchard closed out the ledger with a well-timed run onto a bounding through ball from the midline by sophomore
Jecsi Orellana-Espinal. Pritcher took it off of the hop for a half-volley past Banich for his third goal of the campaign.
Junior goalkeeper
Adam Braman made a pair of saves in 82 minutes before giving way to junior
CJ Pycior. The duo combined for MSU's sixth clean sheet of the season.
Midwestern State plays host to Oklahoma Christian Saturday afternoon at Stang Park. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
