DALLAS -- Midwestern State's Seth Bearden just seemed to get better and better through each of the 36 holes in the first two rounds Monday in the DBU Fall Classic at The Golf Club of Dallas.

The sophomore from Crowell fired six birdies to finish with a 3-under 67 in the opening round, then turned in a clean, bogey-free card with four birdies in the second circuit to finish with 4-under 66.

"Seth played some great golf today," MSU coach Jeff Ray said. "Not one time in 36 holes was he in any trouble. He had a lot of opportunities and put himself in great position off of the tee. His iron game was really good, and mentally, he was playing every shot and never had any lapses."

Bearden stands at the top of the individual leaderboard with a 7-under total of 133 and takes a one-stroke lead into Tuesday's final round over UT Tyler's Seth Campbell, who fired scores of 69 and 65 for a 6-under 134.

Bearden helped the Mustangs to a solid 4-over team total of 284 in the opening round, then MSU found more solid footing in the second on the way to a 4-under 276.

MSU's 36-hole, even-par team total of 560 is just four strokes off the pace of Western New Mexico (278-278) and host Dallas Baptist (277-279), which are tied at the top of the team leaderboard with a 4-under 556.

Senior Keaton Dickens is 13th with an even-par 140, carding scores of 69 and 71, while junior Gatlin Goad is tied for 18th with a 2-over 142. Goad bounced back from a 74 in the opening round to fire a 2-under 68 in the second loop.

Senior Robert Garcia (74-71) battled his way into a tie for 33rd, while fellow senior Kevin Yang recorded tallies of 70 and 72 for a 12-over 152 to tie for 70th.

"We put ourselves in position, but we're going to need four under-par scores to win tomorrow," Ray said.

Senior J.T. Boyd also tied for 18th with scores of 73 and 69 competing as an individual only, while senior James Perry had two eagles in the second round on the way to posting scores of 75 and 70 to tie for 33rd with a 5-over 145.< br="">
Redshirt-freshman Hank Germany (71-79) is tied for 58th with a 10-over 150.

The final round of the DBU Fall Classic begins with a shotgun start Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m.
