WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State has two draws in its last three matches, but the Mustangs (6-0-2) will enter Lone Star Conference play ranked No. 3 in the United Soccer Coaches Division II poll released Tuesday.
The Mustangs played a 0-0 draw at Lubbock Christian on Saturday, following their 2-0 victory over Oklahoma Christian at Stang Park last week. MSU also played West Texas A&M to a 1-1 draw at The Pitch in Canyon earlier this month.
Davis & Elkins (7-0-0) and Franklin Pierce (10-0-1) are the only two schools ranked ahead of Midwestern State. California State – Dominguez Hills (7-0-2) and Saginaw Valley State (10-0-1) complete the top five.
The Maroon & Gold have moved up one spot in each of the last three polls.
MSU has received votes in 94 consecutive USC national ranking releases dating back to the 2013 season spending 55 of those weeks inside the Top 10.
St. Mary's is the only other LSC school in the top-25, and the Rattlers are ranked No. 18 with a 3-0-4 record, moving up from No. 24 in the previous poll. Oklahoma Christian is receiving votes.
Midwestern State is No. 1 in the South Central Region — followed by Colorado State Pueblo (7-2-1), St. Mary's, Oklahoma Christian (6-1-2) and University of Colorado – Colorado Springs. (6-1-3).
Conference play begins for MSU on Saturday at Oklahoma Christian. Kickoff at Eagle Soccer Field in Oklahoma City is scheduled for 7 p.m.
