AUSTIN -- St. Edward's struck for a goal in the first half, then held off Midwestern State for a 1-0 win in Lone Star Conference play Saturday afternoon at Lewis-Chen Family Field.
The Hilltoppers extended their unbeaten streak to six matches improving to 7-1-1 for the season while moving to 3-0 in league play, while MSU slipped to 4-4 and 1-2.
SEU senior Maryanne Crowe won a ball just off of the goal line on the right and slotted a pass to unmarked freshman Elena Ramos Banet in the 11th minute.
Banet tucked a shot just inside the far post for the only goal of the match.
Midwestern State and St. Edward's played on even terms statistically as the Hilltoppers held a 13-12 edge in shots and a 6-4 advantage in corner kick opportunities.
But the Mustangs managed just four shots on frame with two coming off of the right foot of sophomore midfielder
Lexi Beck.
MSU sophomore goalkeeper
Lexi Jackson faced 13 shots and finished with a career-high seven saves.
Midwestern State returns to Stang Park Wednesday night to face Oklahoma Christian in an LSC match. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
