DENTON, Texas -- Midwestern State's
Sadie Portmann put down a career-high 21 kills and added 19 digs to lead the Mustangs to a 25-16, 25-27, 18-25, 25-20, 15-9 win over Cameron Saturday morning in the Lone Star Conference Crossover at Kitty Magee Arena.
The Mustangs overcame an attacking lull hitting .120 as a team through the second and third sets on the heels of a hot swinging start.
MSU came out on fire in the opening set hitting .351 with 18 kills. The Mustangs raced out to a 6-1 advantage, then then closed the set on a 7-1 run to win 25-16.
The Mustangs were on the verge of taking a two-set lead after Cameron setter Anjolie Navarrete followed a ball handling error with a bad set to give MSU a look at consecutive set points.
But the Aggies rallied to score five of the next six points culminating with consecutive blocks by Paris Patterson and Caitlyn Henderson to level the match at a set apiece at 27-25.
Cameron rode the momentum to win the first eight points of the third set to coast to a 25-18 win.
The resilient Mustangs solved their offensive woes by putting down 18 kills in the fourth to force a deciding set.
Portmann was one of four Mustangs to set season highs as senior middle hitter
Aaliyah Burras had 15 kills and hit .273, while freshman
Robyn White put down 13 kills and hit .233.
Senior
Taylor Anderson also set a campaign high with 10 kills.
Midwestern took control of the fifth set by winning seven of eight points to take a 12-6 lead following an Aggie attack error.
The Mustangs close play at the LSC Crossover Saturday night against Texas Woman's. First serve is set for 6 p.m.

Taygon Jones made a season-high 32 digs against Cameron. The Bowie native is averaging 5.85 digs per set since taking over primary libero duties on Sept. 2.

Aaliyah Burras has hit .278 over the last four matches and hit .200-or-better in each of those outings and eight total times this season.

Robyn White upped her season-high in kills in each of the last two matches going for nine against Western New Mexico and 13 versus Cameron.
- Sophomore
Alex Serna hit .250 over the last two games for the Mustangs following a season-high, nine-kill effort against Western New Mexico by putting down seven against Cameron.
- Junior setter
Autumn Roach logged a career-high 47 set assists against Cameron and finished off her third straight double-double with a season 13 digs.
