Red-hot Pioneers too much for Midwestern State

DENTON, Texas -- Red-hot Texas Woman's rolled to its eighth consecutive win beating Midwestern State 20-25, 25-18, 25-15, 25-18 in the finale of the Lone Star Conference Crossover Saturday night at Kitty Magee Arena.

The hot swinging Pioneers improved to 9-3 by hitting .231 as team paced by freshmen Kaia Saylor (15 kills) and Sarah Lindley (14 kills), who combined for 29 kills.

Midwestern State (2-10) took it to the Pioneers in the opening set putting 17 kills with a .200 hitting percentage, but the Mustangs hit .144 in the final three sets.

Senior Taylor Anderson needed just 24 swings to put down a season-high 15 kills with three errors for a .500 hitting percentage, while senior middle hitter Aaliyah Burras logged 14 kills.

Texas Woman's dominated play at the net courtesy of junior Kiya Yeoman, who had a hand on nine of the Pioneers' 11 blocks.

MSU freshman Taygon Jones led back row efforts with 18 digs, while sophomore Amy DeWalt had 10.

The Mustangs make their home debut against St. Edward's Friday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum in what is also the LSC opener for both programs. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
