KEARNEY, Nebraska -- Midwestern State freshmen
Robyn White and
Kimora Carter came off of the bench to give the Mustangs a lift in a competitive third set against No. 2 Washburn Saturday morning in the Nebraska-Kearney Fall Classic at the Health and Sports Center.
It wasn't enough to stave off a solid performance by the Ichabods, who rolled to a 3-0 with a 25-14, 25-13, 25-22 win but it gave a glimpse of the potential for the Mustangs.
White, a native of Spokane Valley, Washington, put down five kills and three blocks and added a dig in her first action of the season.
Carter, who hails from nearby Henrietta, put away three kills and was also strong at the net with three blocks of her own.
Behind those efforts, MSU recorded 15 kills in the third set and finished on the positive end with a .033 team hitting percentage against the MIAA favorites.
Senior middle hitter
Aaliyah Burras led the Mustangs with eight kills on 20 swings with just two errors to record a .300 hitting percentage.
Sophomore outside hitter Jalyn Stevenson led the Ichabods with 10 kills on 19 swings for a .368 hitting percentage, while freshman right-side hitter Kealy Kiviniemi was flawless putting down eight kills on 18 attempts for a .444 hitting average.
Sophomore libero
Amy DeWalt led MSU back row efforts with 13 digs, while
Sadie Portmann,
Autumn Roach, and
Lauryn Bourne had seven digs apiece.
Midwestern State takes on Minot State (N.D.) in the finale of the UNK Fall Classic Saturday afternoon at the Health and Sports Center. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
