GOLDEN, Colorado -- Colorado School of Mines forward Reese McDermott netted a hat trick to lead the Orediggers to a 5-0 win over Midwestern State Saturday afternoon at Stermole Soccer Stadium.

The sophomore from Houston scored the first three goals of the match including tallies in the 22nd and 53rd minutes before bulling her way through two MSU defenders to wrangle in a long ball off of a goal kick in the 57th minute then slide it to the lower left corner of the net to put the Orediggers in control.

Sophomore midfielder Paola Rubi tacked on a fourth goal in the 59th minute on a laser to the upper right corner of the net, then freshman Afton Rasco finished off the scoresheet with her first collegiate goal in the 86th minute.

Sophomore Laura Butler assisted on three of Colorado School of Mines' goals and has accounted for a goal and four assists through the first two matches of the season.

The five-goal loss is the largest margin for an MSU squad since the Mustangs lost 5-0 at Regis (Colo.) 16 years to the date on Aug. 27, 2006.

Midwestern State sophomore Lexi Beck put a shot off of the crossbar in the 83rd minute was the Mustangs' best opportunity to avert the shutout. The rebound narrowly eluded a put back attempt by junior Marissa Resendez.

MSU hosts Southwestern Oklahoma State for its home opener Thursday night at Stang Park. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
