DENVER -- Graduate transfer Alexis Gafney scored in her Regis debut to lift the Rangers to a 1-0 win over Midwestern State in the season opener Thursday night at the Regis Match Pitch.
The transfer from Valparaiso emerged from a mass of Regis players surrounding MSU goalkeeper
Lexi Jackson in the middle of the six-yard box to head in a well-struck serve by Emma Longbrake off of a corner kick in the 42nd minute. It was one of only two corner kicks the Mustangs permitted.
Midwestern State and Regis split possession time equally and the Mustangs held a 14-10 edge in total shots, while forcing Regis goalkeeper Katelyn Martin to make eight saves. None proved overly dangerous.
Junior forward
Cassidy Savoy placed all three of shots on goal continuing her run of solid play throughout the preseason.
Midwestern State concludes its Mile High road swing Saturday afternoon at Colorado School of Mines. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. (Central Time).
The Orediggers claimed a 4-0 season opening win over Texas Woman's Thursday night in Golden.
