WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- In the Lone Star Conference season finale, Midwestern State swept No. 71 Dallas Baptist to claim a 6-3 conference record. The 29th-ranked Mustangs won all three doubles battles and cleaned up at all six singles matches.
The victory puts MSU at a 19-7 tally for the season and fourth place in the Lone Star Conference standings.
Casie Curry and
Emilija Visic kicked off the match with their first win at No. 1 doubles. The 38th-ranked duo moves to an 18-2 record for the season, winning their last seven matches together.
Sydney Williams and
Skylar Minns followed with their 16th win of the season at No. 3 doubles. The pair defeated Adriana Carpenter and Sofia Teran by a 6-2 score.
Anda Ghinga and
Hannah Yip picked up their first win at No. 2 doubles. The 24th-ranked team took down Leslie Omeire and Madison Stafford. The DBU duo lost their fifth consecutive match.
Curry donned a straight-set victory over Grace Gaskins to start singles play. The senior has four wins at line two and is 18-5 for the season.
Ethne Dowling claimed her sixth win at line three on Saturday. The junior handed Teran her fifth straight loss.
Ghinga broke her five-match slump with a big three-set victory at line one. The sophomore defeated Caroline Hudson in the first and third sets to secure a 15-10 tally for the year.
Visic holds a 12-1 record at line five after beating Elise Carbo. The sophomore allowed one point in Carbo's sixth consecutive loss. Visic has 18 total singles wins this season.
Yip posted her first line four win of the year. After dropping the first set to Carpenter, the freshman rebounded in the last two sets.
Minns concluded the match with a straight-set win over Ira Vogelmann. The sophomore is 13-6 from line six and 17-7 for the season.
Midwestern State begins play in the Lone Star Conference tournament on Thursday, April 28. As the No. 4 seed, the Mustangs will face the No. 5 seed in the quarterfinal round at noon. Arlington Tennis Center will hold all matches in the tournament.
