WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State clinched the fourth Lone Star Conference Championship on Saturday. The team beat Dallas Baptist at MSU Tennis Center. The 28th-ranked Mustangs finished the season with a perfect 7-0 conference record to claim the No. 1 seed in next week's tournament.
MSU's regular-season record settled at 15-7 for the year.
Alex Martinez Roca and
Ben Westwick won all seven LSC matches at No. 1 doubles. The second-ranked duo in the nation gave Aaron Capone and Ricardo Carvajalino their third straight loss. Martinez Roca and Westwick concluded the regular season with an 18-2 tally.
Brice Bradshaw and
Corbin Ford found their sixth victory at No. 2 doubles. The pair beat Gabe Garrido and Andrew Dayman by a 6-4 score to secure the doubles point for the Mustangs.
Westwick dominated Carvajlino at line three. The senior has a 12-9 record for the season after the 6-0, 6-3 win.
Bradshaw defeated Garrido in straight-sets at line two. The sophomore has ten of his elven wins at line two this season.
Martinez Roca secured his tenth victory of the season at line one. The 20th-ranked senior beat Grant McKenzie 6-3, 6-2.
Marcal Miret Avante clinched the match for MSU at line four. The freshman's 14th singles win was Aaron Capone's third consecutive drop.
Charles Heffernan defeated Zach Capone at line five. The Mustang junior holds a 13-7 tally for the season.
Jean Muniz finished the match at line six. The senior beat Roman Hill for his third victory of the year.
Midwestern State begins play in the Lone Star Conference tournament on Thursday, April 28, at Arlington Tennis Center. As the No. 1 seed, the Mustangs will face the No. 8 seed in the quarterfinal round at 3:30 p.m.
