ARLINGTON, Texas -- Midwestern State grabbed a victory in the Lone Star Conference quarterfinal round on Thursday afternoon. The top-seeded team defeated the eight seed, Dallas Baptist University, by a 4-0 score at Arlington Tennis Center. The 33rd-ranked Mustangs move on to the semifinals of the LSC Championship.
Quentin Scharfenberg and
Stephen Slocombe kicked off the match with their third win of the season at No. 3 doubles. The duo avenged its April 23 loss to Grant McKenzie and Roman Hill with a 6-2 score. Scharfenberg and Slocombe have a 3-2 record this season while the DBU pair suffer their first loss together.
Brice Bradshaw and
Corbin Ford secured the doubles point at line two. They knocked out Gabe Garrido and Matthew Dayman on a 6-1 win. Bradshaw and Ford found their seventh victory of the season.
Stefan Andrei swept his line six singles match. The freshman handed Hill his sixth loss of the season. Andrei moves to a 12-7 tally for the year.
Charles Heffernan also rocked a 6-0, 6-0 win. The junior overcame Zach Capone at line five. Heffernan holds a 14-7 record. Capone is 3-8 and lost his last four matches.
Bradshaw clinched the match at line two. The sophomore stifled McKenzie 6-1, 6-2. Bradshaw collected his 11th win at line two and McKenzie falls to an 8-12 tally for the season.
Midwestern State continues to play in the Lone Star Conference Championship on Tuesday, April 29. The Mustangs face St. Mary's in the semifinal round of the tournament. The first serve is set for 1 p.m. at Arlington Tennis Center.
