Powerhouse Baylor sweeps past Mustangs

WACO, Texas -- Quentin Scharfenberg and Stephen Slocombe grabbed a doubles win in Midwestern State's 7-0 drop to Baylor on Tuesday at Hurd Tennis Center. The fourth-ranked Bears swept the 38th-ranked Mustangs for MSU's seventh loss of the season, now 14-7.

The loss cuts MSU's four-match win streak that started on April 10.

Baylor started the scoring first, taking the doubles point at lines one and two. The Scharfenberg and Slocombe combination collected their second victory together at line three. The duo defeated Ethan Muza and Christopher Frantzen by a hard-fought 7-6 score.

Marko Miladinovic bested Marcal Miret Avante at line four. The freshman grabbed a point in each set against Miladinovic. Miret Avante is 14-4 for the season.

Brice Bradshaw rallied a point in his second set battle at line two. The sophomore fell to Sven Lah who ranks 71st in the ITA National Singles Rankings. Bradshaw now owns a 10-10 tally for the year.

Ben Westwick battled in his second set at line three against Finn Bass. The junior tallied a 6-0, 6-4 score against Bass is No. 123 in the ITA rankings. Westwick has an 11-9 record in all singles play.

Alex Martinez Roca, the 19th-ranked player in the ITA DII list, almost pushed Matias Soto to a third set. Soto holds the 39th spot in the Division I rankings. Martinez Roca's fifth loss of the season puts him at 9-5.

Charles Heffernan was able to tally three points in both sets versus Ethan Muza. The junior is now 8-5 at line five after the loss. Overall, Heffernan owns a 12-7 record.

Stefan Andrei was close to pushing Frantzen to three sets. The freshman ended up dropping by a 6-4, 7-5 score to the sophomore. Andrei has an 8-2 tally at line six.

Midwestern State hosts Dallas Baptist in the final match of the regular season. The Mustangs and the Patriots finish off the season at MSU Tennis Center on Saturday, April 23. The first serve of the Lone Star Conference match is set for 11 a.m. Senior day festivities will follow the match.
