WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State battles St. Mary's in a Lone Star Conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Mustangs Park. First pitches are tentatively slated for 1 and 3 p.m.

The games were originally scheduled for Friday afternoon, but were moved back a day due to frigid weather forecast.

The games are set for broadcast on the Lone Star Conference Digital Network at MSUMustangs.com/streaming.

Midwestern State split Lone Star Conference doubleheaders against UT Permian Basin and Western New Mexico last week... The Mustangs rank 14th in the LSC in hitting (.265 team batting average), 15th in pitching (6.39 team ERA) and 13th in fielding (.941 fielding percentage)... Senior Ashley Turner ranks 13th in the LSC and 97th in NCAA Division II with a .446 batting average... Turner also ranks 13th in the league and 89th in NCAA Division II in slugging percentage at .786... Turner is hitting .467 (14-of-30) during a current eight-game hitting streak with three doubles, three homers and eight RBIs... Turner has reached base in each game this season and in 23 consecutive games dating back to last season... Turner has multiple hits in each of her last three games going 8-for-13... Junior Bailey Brenek ranks second on the team hitting .417 with seven doubles, a triple, a homer and 14 RBIs... Brenek boasts multiple hits in nine games this season... Sophomore Hanna Hetherington belted three home runs in a doubleheader split Sunday at Western New Mexico... Freshman Mikey Dominguez blasted her first collegiate home run in Game 1 Sunday at Western New Mexico, then belted her second in the nightcap... Dominguez has multiple hits in each of her last three games and is 6-for-10 (.600) with a triple, two homers and five RBIs during the stretch... Senior Daylan Inkman constructed a four-game hitting streak going 6-for-14 (.429) with a double and four RBIs... Inkman supplied two hits in both games at Western New Mexico... Freshman Sabrina Graf has a hit in each of her last three games including a three-hit game with two doubles and three RBIs in Game 1 at Western New Mexico on Sunday... Sophomore Kennedy Cameron recorded a season-high 11 strikeouts while claiming her second consecutive win in Game 1 Sunday at Western New Mexico... HEAD COACH BRITTANIE TALLEY is in her first season at the helm of the Midwestern State program. Talley amassed a 129-75 record (.632) over the past five seasons at Vernon College including a 42-12 run while leading Chaps to the 2021 NJCAA regional tournament. That came on the heels of a 21-1 start in 2020 before the season was cut short by the pandemic. Prior to Vernon College, Talley played a role in a successful three-year run at Alabama State helping the Lady Hornets to a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) title and a trip to the NCAA Division I regionals in 2016. She competed professionally for the Skovde Saints winning the Swedish championship as the league's pitcher of the year in 2011. She enjoyed a standout collegiate career at Jackson State where she earned second-team All-SWAC honors earning 27 career wins while posting seven shutouts. She also hit .320 in 172 career at bats.

St. Mary's is coming off of a doubleheader split with No. 15 Texas A&M-Kingsville and has won nine of its last 10 games including an eight-game winning streak from Feb. 19-March 5... The Rattlers rank third in the LSC in pitching (1.81 team ERA), third in fielding (.976 team fielding percentage) and 12th in the LSC in hitting (.288 team batting average)... Freshman Savannah Youngblood ranks fifth in the LSC and 40th in NCAA Division II with a 1.14 ERA... Youngblood is 7-1 with two saves in the circle allowing seven earned runs on 36 hits in 43 innings... Youngblood has registered 18 strikeouts and six walks while allowing a .229 opponent batting average... Junior Catalina Cavazos ranks sixth in the LSC and 54th in NCAA Division II with a 1.31 ERA... Cavazos is 9-0 in the circle with five complete games and two shutouts... Cavazos has permitted 11 earned runs on 51 hits in 59 innings limiting the opposition to a .233 batting average... Cavazos has registered 52 strikeouts and 13 walks... Senior Jayme Johns is the Rattlers top batting threat boasting a .439 average with two doubles and a team-high 14 RBIs...

ABOUT THE SERIES

Midwestern State and St. Mary's meet for the 20th and 21st time Saturday afternoon at Mustangs Park. The Rattlers own a 12-7 edge in the series that dates back to the 2005 season. St. Mary's has won the last seven games in the series dating back to MSU's 4-0 win in the 2013 NCAA Division II South Central Regional played in Denton. The Mustangs are 4-0 against St. Mary's in Wichita Falls. MSU beat the Rattlers 2-1 in eight innings in the MSU Invitational on Feb. 17, 2007 played at Wichita Falls Softball Complex. The Mustangs won by the same score in the opening round of the 2010 NCAA Division II South Central Regionals and again -- by the same score -- on March 25, 2011. St. Mary's lost 8-0 in five innings in its last visit to Wichita Falls on March 2, 2013.
