No. 22 MSU takes down No. 21 Southwest Baptist at home

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State swept Southwestern Baptist in doubles play and donned four of six singles wins to take a 5-2 score. The No. 22 Mustangs win their second straight match with the victory over the No. 21 Bearcats.

Skylar Minns and Sydney Williams started MSU on the right foot with their No. 3 doubles win. The duo hold a 4-2 record with the 6-1 score over Giselle Garcia and Lola Cincunegui.

Casie Curry and Emilija Visic claimed their second straight victory from the second doubles line. The pair went 6-4 against Ghada Dirninger and Elsa Pascual.

Anda Ghinga and Hannah Yip sealed the deal with their 7-5 win over Diana Cabrera and Paula Ballesteros. The Mustang duet clinched their second victory together after defeating Cowley County at the top doubles spot.

SBU bounced back with a win at No. 4 singles. Dirninger notched her second win with the 6-3, 6-2 score against Curry, who falls to 2-2 on the season.

Yip got the best of Pascual at the No. 2 spot. The freshman goes to a 3-4 record with the 6-3, 6-3 victory.

Ghinga followed with her second three-set win of the season. The sophomore overcame No. 17 Diana Cabrera by a 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 score. Ghinga is 4-3 at the No. 1 line for the Mustangs.

Minns punched her sixth win of the season at the sixth spot. The sophomore went 6-0, 6-0 against Garcia, who is 0-3 for the year.

Ballesteros overtook Ethne Dowling in three sets at the third line. The Bearcat freshman went 3-6, 7-5, 6-2 to push Dowling to a 2-3 record.

Visic finished the match with a clean 6-4, 6-2 victory versus Cincunegui at No. 5 singles. The sophomore stays undefeated with a 3-0 tally in singles play.

Midwestern State is back on the courts with a double header on Saturday, March 5. The Mustangs take on No. 17 Washburn at 10 a.m. and Northeastern State at 3 p.m. Both matches will be held at MSU Tennis Center.
