MIDLAND, Texas -- No. 41 Midwestern State remains undefeated in Lone Star Conference play. The Mustangs stifled UT Permian Basin, 5-2, on Saturday afternoon at Bush Tennis Center. MSU rides a six-match streak and claims the third road win of the season.
Midwestern State has yet to fall to UTPB, winning ten matches since 2014.
Brice Bradshaw and
Corbin Ford clinched their second straight victory from the second line. The pair is 2-1 after defeating Paul Schweiger and Jorge Carlos Arrabal, 6-3.
Alex Martinez Roca and
Ben Westwick secured their sixth consecutive win at the No. 1 position. The No. 1-rank duo outlasted Patryk Kosinski and Hector Flores by a 6-2 score.
Marcal Miret Avante and
Stephen Slocombe collected a 6-3 victory at the third spot. They beat Enrique Sanchez and Fernando Siqueira. Miret Avante and Slocombe won back-to-back matches.
Miret Avante followed with his sixth successive victory at the No. 3 line. The freshman secured a 6-4, 6-4 score to beat Schweiger. Miret Avante has an 11-1 record for the season.
Bradshaw ended his six-match streak as he fell to Kosinski at the No. 2 spot. Kosinski pulled a 6-1, 6-0 score over the MSU sophomore. Bradshaw is 9-5 in all singles play.
No. 20 Martinez Roca notched his second victory over a ranked opponent. The senior overcame No. 70 Sanchez by a 7-5, 6-1 score. Martinez Roca has a 7-1 record in 2022.
Stefan Andrei clinched a three-set win at No. 6. The freshman beat Jonah Neumaier 6-0, 2-6, 6-3. Andrei has sixth consecutive victories.
Westwick posted his second win of the weekend at the fourth line. The junior tallied a 6-4, 6-4 score against Roberto Arrabal to inch to a 9-5 record.
Charles Heffernan suffered his second straight loss. Arrabal beat the junior in three sets for the Falcons' second point.
Midwestern State returns to Wichita Falls after a two-week hiatus. MSU takes on Northwest Missouri State on Friday, April 8, at MSU Tennis Center. The Mustangs and the Bearcats kick off at 10 a.m.
