No. 41 MSU wins fifth straight, beats Western New Mexico 6-1

SILVER CITY, N.M. -- In their fifth-straight triumph, No. 41 Midwestern State overcame Western New Mexico, 6-1. With the victory, MSU remains undefeated in the Lone Star Conference and moves to 9-5 for the season.

Alex Martinez Roca and Ben Westwick clinched their fifth consecutive victory at No. 1. The top-ranked pair posted a 6-2 score over Jonathan Vega and Javier Romero to claim an 11-1 record for the season. They
are undefeated in both Lone Star Conference competitions.

Brice Bradshaw and Corbin Ford collaborated for the second time at the second spot. They inked their first win with a 6-3 takedown of Joaquin Delpino and Ju-Jhe Du. Bradshaw and Ford hold a 1-1 tally for the year.


Marcal Miret Avante and Stephen Slocombe snapped their two-match slide on Friday. They had a 6-4 victory over Patricio Larrea and Brendan Lock. The duo moves to a 5-6 record at the No. 3 position. This was their first LSC win for the season.


With a five-match streak in hand, the 20th-ranked Martinez Roca secured a three-set win. He overcame Vega at the No. 1 singles line. The junior's 2-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-4) score pushed him to a 6-1 tally. Martinez Roca is 2-0 in league play.


Bradshaw also clinched his second Lone Star Conference victory in Friday's match. The sophomore collected a 6-3, 6-2 score over Delpino at No. 2. Bradshaw owns a 9-4 record for the year and rides a six-match streak.


Miret Avante faced Romero at No. 3. The Mustang freshman tallied a 6-2, 6-3 win for his fourth consecutive victory. The Spaniard is 10-1 for the season and 2-0 in LSC matches.


Westwick played his first match at the fourth line. The junior notched a 6-0, 6-0 sweep over Du to move to a 6-7 record.


Larrea stopped Charles Heffernan from claiming his fifth straight victory. The Western New Mexico freshman posted a 4-6, 7-6, 1-0 (10-1) win at No. 5. This was Heffernan's second loss from the fifth spot as he sports a 9-4 record.


Stefan Andrei acquired his fifth consecutive win with a 6-1, 6-2 clash versus Lock at No. 6. The MSU freshman is undefeated from the last singles spot, sporting a 4-0 tally. He is 7-5 for the season.

Midwestern State continues conference play on Saturday, March 26. They face UT Permian Basin in their third Lone Star Conference match. The Mustangs and the Falcons battle at Bush Tennis Center in Midland, Texas. First serve is set for noon.
