WICHITA FALLS, Texas –
Emilija Visic and
Skylar Minns each tallied doubles and singles victories in No. 22 Midwestern State's 5-2 defeat over the third-ranked NJCAA side, Cowley County. The Mustangs end their three-match slide and take a 3-3 record on the 2022 season.
Visic and
Casie Curry kicked things off with a 6-2 win over Saara Kunakunova and Tshegofatso Tsiang at the second doubles line. In their first match together, the Mustang duo clinched their first win.
Minns and
Sydney Williams notch a 3-2 record from No. 3 doubles. The pair overtook Camila Neyra and V Jimenez by 6-2 to clinch the first point for MSU.
The No. 5 ranked pair of Isid Hernandez and Ntokozo Zungu collected a 6-3 win over
Anda Ghinga and
Hannah Yip at the top doubles line.
Tsiang claimed the Tigers' first point at No. 4 singles. The freshman nicked Curry in three sets: 4-6, 6-1, 6-0. Curry is 2-1 at the fourth line with the drop.
Ethne Dowling claimed her first victory at the third singles line with her win against No. 16 Kunakunova. The junior is 2-2 in singles for the year with the 6-4, 7-6, 7-2 tally.
Zungu got the best of Yip at the second singles spot. The freshman took a 6-4, 6-2 win to put Yip at 2-4 for the season at No. 2.
Ghinga rebounded with a big three-set victory against No. 6 Hernandez. With the 1-6, 6-2, 6-4 score, Ghinga moves to 3-3 at the top singles spot for the Mustangs.
Minns and Visic finished the match on back-to-back wins for MSU. Minns tallied a 6-0, 6-1 score against Jimenez at the sixth line. Visic went 6-0, 7-5 against No. 19 Neyra at the fifth spot.
Midwestern State continues their homestand with three more matches this week. On Friday, March 4, the Mustangs take on No. 21 Southwest Baptist at 1 p.m. On Saturday, March 5, MSU faces No. 17 Washburn at 10 a.m. and Northeastern State at 3 p.m. MSU Tennis Center hosts all three matches.
