No. 23 Midwestern State beats No. 15 Nebraska-Kearney, Hastings to push win streak to 10

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State Women's Tennis extended their winning streak to ten matches on Tuesday as they took down No. 15 Nebraska-Kearney and Hastings College. The No. 23 ranked Mustangs move to 12-3 for the 2022 season.

The Mustangs started strong with No. 26 Anda Ghinga and Hannah Yip defeating Alexis Bernthal and Jazmin Zamorano at the top doubles line. The duo tallied a 6-2 score.

No. 31 Casie Curry and Emilija Visic overcame Myrzaim Sherikulova and Narindra Ranaivo. The second position held a 6-2 score.

Skylar Minns and Sydney Williams clinched the point for the Mustangs at the third spot. The duo went 7-6 (7-5) over Masha Hatouka and Melisa Becerra.

Ghinga secured her ninth win of the season from the No. 1 position. The No. 40 ranked sophomore completed a 6-1, 6-2 score over Becerra.

Casie Curry also tallied a victory at the fourth spot. In her fourth consecutive win, the junior took down Zamorano by 6-0, 6-4.

Visic claimed the match with her three-set victory at the fifth spot. The sophomore clinched a 7-6, 3-6, 7-6 score for her ninth win of the season.

Yip fell to Bernthal at the second line to end her two-match streak. The freshman tallied a three-set fight at 1-6, 7-6, 3-6.

Ethne Dowling also lost her four-match winning spell on a 5-7, 5-7 score to Ranaivo. The junior drops to 5-2 at the third position.

Hatouka overcame Minns at the sixth line by a 7-6, 6-2 score.

MIDWESTERN STATE 7, HASTINGS 0

Minns and Williams walked off with their second victory of the day. The duo defeated Sasha Richards and Jenna Davidson at the third doubles line by 6-0. Minns and Williams are 10-4 for the season with a six-match streak.

Ghinga and Yip continued their undefeated stretch with a 6-0 sweep over Theresa Price and Samantha Worthington at the one spot. Ghinga holds a 10-3 doubles tally while Yip is 11-2.

Curry and Visic finished with another 6-0 score to mark their 9-1 tally for the year. The duo has not dropped a match since March 5 as they beat Emma Markle and Hannah Theisen at the second line.

Williams did not give up a point in her 6-0, 6-0 defeat of Davidson at the fifth spot. The freshman tallies a 4-4 singles record and snaps a four-match slide.

Minns collected her first victory at the fourth spot after grabbing a 6-0, 6-0 score over Worthington. Overall, the sophomore is 9-4 in singles play.

Curry went to 2-1 from the No. 3 spot. The junior posted a 6-1, 6-0 tally versus Theisen to secure a 7-3 record and six game stretch.

Ghinga donned her second victory of the day from the one line. The sophomore swept Price 6-0, 6-0 to find a 10-4 tally on the year.

Yip deeated Markle at the second spot by a 6-0, 6-1 score. The freshman is 8-7 on the season.

Kanaha Furutani tallied a victory in her first appearance for the Mustangs. The freshman posted a 6-0, 6-2 score over Richards to bring MSU to the shutout and close the win.

Midwestern State begins play in the Lone Star Conference this Friday. The team takes on UAFS on March 18 to start conference play. First serve is set for 2 p.m. at MSU Tennis Center.
