WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State tallied their second win of the week with a 7-0 sweep against Hastings on Tuesday afternoon. The Mustangs climb above .500 with the victory to a 6-5 record for 2022.
The second-ranked doubles pairing in the nation,
Alex Martinez Roca and
Ben Westwick, posted a 6-0 score over Josh and Zach Sodorff at the first doubles line. The Mustang duo is 8-1 on the season.
Brice Bradshaw and Quentin Scharfengerg collected a 6-3 tally at the second spot. The pair defeated Nick Smeltzer and Hunter Royal to find a 3-1 record.
Stephen Slocombe and
Marcal Miret Avante went 6-1 over Thane Waite and Hayden Royal. At the third line, they are 4-4 for the year.
Martinez Roca followed with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Smeltzer at the top singles line. The No. 14 player is 3-1 for MSU.
Bradshaw clinched his sixth victory of the year. He pushed to a 6-1, 6-0 score over Josh Sodorff at the second spot.
Westwick donned a 6-1, 6-1 win against Zach Sodorff at No. 3. This is the junior's second consecutive victory to push him to a 4-6 overall record.
Miret Avante notched a 7-1 record after besting Hunter Royal. The fourth singles battle saw a 6-0, 6-1 score for the Mustang freshman.
Charles Heffernan defeated Hayden Royal at the fifth spot. For his seventh win of the season, the junior swept 6-0, 6-0.
Stefan Andrei finished with a 6-1, 6-0 tally over Waite at the sixth line. Andrei moves to 4-5 on the season.
Midwestern State takes on Baylor University on Thursday, March 17 in Waco, Texas, as a refresh before beginning Lone Star Conference play. The Mustangs and the Bears face-off at Hurd Tennis Center.Â
