MAGNOLIA, Ark. -- Midwestern State split their final day of play in Magnolia as they tallied a 4-1 victory over Montevallo and fell 0-4 to No. 11 Southern Arkansas. MSU is 4-5 for the 2022 season.
MIDWESTERN STATE 4, Â MONTEVALLO 1
Alex Martinez Roca and
Ben Westwick moved to 6-0 on the season after beating Nick Hartmann and Jules Dugue at the top doubles line. The No. 2 ranked duo went 6-1 against the Falcons.
Marcal Miret Avante and
Stephen Slocombe went 6-3 at the third spot versus Alexandre Laplante and Gavin Salton. The Mustang duo inked their second win of the year.
Brice Bradshaw and
Quentin Scharfenberg finished doubles play with a 7-5 score over Sergi Martinez and Philippe Zehender. The pair clinched their first win together.
Montevallo picked up their first point at the No. 1 singles position. Dylan Valentine overcame Westwick by 6-4, 7-6 (7-3).
Bradshaw picked up his third win at the No. 2 spot with a 6-4, 7-5 score against Julius Ziebart.
Miret Avante tallied his sixth straight singles victory, playing at the third line against the Falcons. He beat Zehender 7-6 (7-2), 6-3.
Charles Heffernan clinched MSU's final point of the match on a three-set fight versus Salton at the fourth line. Heffernan came out on top by a 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) score.
Stefan Andrei's No. 5 match against Dugue went unfished with the score at 6-0, 4-2 in favor of the Mustang freshman. Scharfenberg and Hartmann's battle at the sixth spot was also unfinished.

MIDWESTERN STATE 0, SOUTHERN ARKANSAS 4
Bradshaw and Scharfenberg took their first loss of the season on a 4-6 score against the No. 38 duo of Stuart Rehfuss and Sofiane Bah. The Mustang pair is now 1-1 from the No. 2 position.
Westwick and Martinez Roca also suffered their first drop and hold a 6-1 record. The No. 2 ranked pair fell 5-7 to Sander Jans and Marko Nikoliuk at the top line.
Southern Arkansas secured their first point with the win at the three spot. Miret Avante and Slocombe dropped 6-7 to Yuri Gondouin and Ole Vakyser to go 2-4 for the season.
Westwick saw his fourth straight drop at the No. 1 singles position. The junior fell 2-6, 2-6 to No. 29 ranked Jans. Westwick is 2-6 in all singles play.
Heffernan moves to a 5-3 record after a 4-6, 1-6 loss to Vakyser. The junior is 2-1 at the fourth line.
The Muleriders finished the match with the win at No. 3 singles. No. 6 ranked Nikoliuk defeated Miret Avante to end the freshman's win streak. With the 0-6, 7-5, 3-6 loss, Miret Avante is 4-1 from the third line and 6-1 overall.
Bradshaw's three-set match against Rehfuss at the second position went unfinished. Andrei and Scharfenberg's battles at No. 5 and No. 6 were also incomplete.
Midwestern State returns home for a full week of matches next week. The Mustangs kick-off Spring Break with a clash versus Emporia State on Monday, March 14 at 11 a.m. MSU follows with a battle against Hastings College on Tuesday, March 15 at 2 p.m. Both matches will take place at MSU Tennis Center in Wichita Falls, Texas.
