OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLA. -- Despite the match being moved back a week, Midwestern State still clinched their second win of the 2022 spring season with a clean 7-0 sweep of Oklahoma Wesleyan. The Saturday match saw
Ben Westwick,
Brice Bradshaw,
Stefan Andrei and
Brandon Wall each claim wins in doubles and singles. MSU moves to 2-1 on the season with the victory.
Bradshaw secured his third No. 2 doubles victory of the season with a 6-1 takedown of Clement Martin and Logan Reece. He and Andrei are 2-0 with their other victory coming against Tyler Junior College on Friday.
After falling at the third doubles spot to TJC on Friday,
Marcal Miret Avante and Wall secured their first win together against the Eagles. The duo posted a 6-2 score over Adam Spencer and Brenner McDougal.
No. 4 Westwick and
Alex Martinez Roca claimed their third straight victory at No. 1 doubles. The duo took down OWU's Jose Catala and Jorge Catala Ortiz by 6-3 to clinch the doubles point for MSU.
Wall played his first match at the No. 6 singles spot against Oklahoma Wesleyan. The senior collected a 6-0, 6-0 sweep over McDougal for his second singles win of the season. The first was another 6-0, 6-0 score against McMurry.
Charles Heffernan is also a perfect 2-0 on the year. The junior has not conceded a point with 6-0, 6-0 wins against McMurry and Spence of OWU. The two battled at the No. 4 spot on Saturday.
Jean Muniz was also close to a perfect score, but allowed Reece one point in the opening set. The Mustang senior secured a 6-1, 6-0 win to go 2-0 at the No. 5 singles line.
No. 50 Andrei found his first victory at the third singles spot, sweeping both sets against Martin. The freshman is 2-1 on the season with another defeat at the No. 2 spot and one loss at the fourth line.
After suffering a tough blow in the match against Tyler JC, Bradshaw bounced back with his 6-2, 6-0 win over Catala Ortiz. Bradshaw is 2-1, playing at the top three singles spots.
Westwick brought the match home with a thrilling battle against Catala at the top singles line. After dropping the first set 5-7, the junior took the second 6-3 and the third tiebreaker at 10-7. Westwick claimed his first singles victory of the season.
Midwestern State is on the road again next week to take on Collin College on Friday, Feb. 25 and Southeastern Oklahoma on Saturday, Feb. 26. MSU and CC face-off at 1 p.m. at the Collin College Tennis Courts in Plano, Texas. The Mustangs and the Storm battle in Durant, Okla., at the Southeastern Tennis Complex. First serve is set for 11 a.m.
