UT Tyler runs past Mustangs, 76-56

TYLER, Texas – Marquis Davison splashed in a collegiate-high 23 points on 10-of-13 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds in a 76-56 loss in Lone Star Conference play Friday night at Louise Herrington Patriot Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED >>>

UT Tyler scored nine consecutive points coming out of the under-8 minute timeout, then closed the first half on a 12-2 run to take control of the game with a 39-23 lead over Midwestern State.
 
The Patriots led by as many as 26 points in the second half on the way to improving to 5-0.
 
Marquis Davison scored the first seven points for Midwestern State to help the Mustangs construct a seven-point lead at 11-4 just over five minutes into the game.

- Midwestern State junior Marquis Davison poured in a career-high 24 points on 10-of-13 shooting with a 3-pointer. He also led the Mustangs with eight rebounds.
- Sophomore guard Jordan Teal finished with seven points, seven rebounds, and five assists.
- Senior Rashun Williams paced UT Tyler with 20 points on 8-of-17 shooting. He added nine rebounds and four assists.
- Former MSU standout Terrell Wilson added 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting with a 3-pointer for the Patriots.

GAME NOTES >>>

- Midwestern State suffered its second straight loss to fall to 2-5 on the season, while moving to 0-2 in Lone Star Conference play.
- The Mustangs shot 14-of-26 (53.8 percent) in the second half and finished above the 40-percent mark for the fourth consecutive game at 40.4 percent.
- Midwestern State connected on just two 3-pointers on 20 attempts for the game. It was the fewest since the Mustangs went 2-for-17 at Lubbock Christian on Feb. 3, 2022.
- The Mustangs have shot a combined 15 free throws in LSC opening setbacks to Dallas Baptist and UT Tyler.
