MSU hosts Southeastern Oklahoma in Ashbrook Classic

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State is hosting the annual Ashbrook Classic. This year, Texas Woman's, East Central and Southeastern Oklahoma are competing in the event. The Mustangs face Southeastern in the second game on Friday. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. The opening game on Friday features TWU and East Central. The action begins at 3:30 p.m.

Series History | Southeastern Oklahoma leads, 16-10

LAST MEETING | Midwestern State built a big lead and led from tip-to-buzzer taking a 79-72 win over Southeastern Oklahoma State in the finale of the 2013 Ashbrook Classic at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. Senior guard Kirsti Degelia poured in a team-high 18 points while connecting three 3-pointers in 31 minutes, while junior Shatoia Gober delivered an all-around performance with 13 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. Midwestern scored the final nine points of the first half extending its lead to 34-21 after junior Jenae McJunkins connected on a 3-pointer with 20 seconds to go in the first half. The Mustangs poured it on at the start of the second half pushing the advantage to 50-27 after Degelia connected on a pair of free throws just over four minutes after the break. Senior forward Andrea Carter pitched in 12 points and four rebounds in 17 minutes, while Lynn Lumpkin-Boozer added nine points and four rebounds in 11 minutes off of the bench. Breana Small-Peppers was 9-for-9 from the floor to finish with a game-high 23 points to pace Southeastern.

LAST TIME OUT | Midwestern State found its rhythm on the offensive end to take an 80-72 win over UC Colorado Springs Saturday night at Gallogly Events Center. The Mustangs shook off a sluggish start to shoot 53.7 percent from the field over the final three quarters in a game that featured 70 fouls. Junior guard Kennedi Green paced MSU with 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting with two 3-pointers, while sophomore Yasmine Sifaoui added 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting in just six minutes of court time. Senior Sheridan Bostic ignited a 10-0 run with a 3-pointer from the left corner before Green hit a runner in the lane. The Mustangs finished off the run with free throws to take a 36-25 lead with 4:29 remaining in the first half. The Mustangs led by as many as 14 points in the second half using a balanced scoring attack. Senior guard Eternity Jackson scored all nine of her points from the free throw line, while starters Jordan Mathis, and Natalie Stice both joined Bostic also chipping in nine points each. Senior Mandy Withey added seven points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, while Maya Kendall booked seven points, as well.
