WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- West Texas A&M used a strong and balanced attack to roll to a 38-26 win over Midwestern State in Lone Star Conference Saturday night at Memorial Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED >>>
West Texas A&M senior quarterback Nick Gerber threw for 308 yards and a touchdown, while the Buffs rolled up 277 rushing yards paced by Jarrod Compton (99 yards on 24 carries) and Isaiah Smallwood (92 yards on 17 carries).
WT scored two touchdowns in each of the first two quarters then extended the lead to 35-10 on Compton's second scoring run of the game on a 10-yard burst up the middle just over two minutes into the second half.
Midwestern State answered with two long scoring drives as Jay-Ton Franklin finished a 12-play, 73-yard drive in the third quarter by falling on a fumble in the end zone, then Neiko Hollins hit freshman Quinci Jones on a 55-yards TD strike with 3:39 to go in the third quarter.
Ritse Vaes connected second 31-yard field goal of the night just nine seconds into the fourth quarterto make it 35-26, but that's as close as the Mustangs would get.

Trenton Kennedy rushed for 103 yards on 15 carries with a touchdown. It was his first 100-yard rushing performance as a Mustang.
55 - True freshman
Quinci Jones' first career reception went for a 55-yard touchdown in the third quarter.
6-for-7 - Sophomore kicker
Ritse Vaes connected on a pair 31-yard field goals and has made six of his seven field goal attempts this season. Vaes is also perfect on each of his 25 point-after attempts.
