Red-hot DBU sweeps past Mustangs

DALLAS -- Senior AJ Koele put down 11 kills to lead hot hitting Dallas Baptist to a 25-22, 25-15, 25-16 win over Midwestern State in Lone Star Conference play Friday night.

The Patriots (18-3, 9-1) won their ninth consecutive match while staying perfect in nine games at the Burg Center and did it efficiently.

DBU, which is receiving votes in this week's American Volleyball Coaches' Association Division II poll, amassed 36 kills and committed just nine errors in 77 attacks to hit .351 as a team, while sophomores Aryn Walton and Kenzie McNeill notched four service aces each as the Patriots finished with 11 as a team.

Midwestern State battled its way to hit .132 as a team paced by sophomore Kelli Ell and freshman Sadie Portmann, who had six kills each.

Freshman Arrianna Field notched five kills on 13 swings with two errors for a .231 hitting percentage, while senior Aaliyah Burras hit .444 while putting down four kills and a block.

Senior Taylor Anderson added five kills.

Freshman Taygon Jones led back row efforts with seven digs, while junior Autumn Roach had six digs.

Midwestern State closes its East Texas road swing Saturday afternoon at UT Tyler. First serve from the Louise Herrington Patriot Center is set for 2 p.m.
