Burras leads Mustangs at UT Tyler

TYLER, Texas -- Midwestern State made hustle plays forcing UT Tyler into long rallies, then fought off four match points Saturday afternoon at the Louise Herrington Patriot Center.

But, in the end, the effort weren't enough to offset  stellar offensive performance by UT Tyler as the Patriots rolled to a 25-21, 25-11, 25-21 victory.

UTT senior outside hitter Mikayla Ware put down 17 kills and added six digs as the Patriots hit .278 as a team amassing 50 kills to just 15 errors in 126 total attacks.

Junior Evelyn Torres (eight kills and two errors) and freshman Jeorgia Jones (seven kills, one error) rounded out the UT Tyler attack by hitting .462 and .429, respectively.

Senior defensive specialist Savannah Guzman piled up 27 digs as the Patriots limited the Mustangs to 28 total kills and a .113 team attack percentage.

Senior middle hitter Aaliyah Burras paced the Mustangs with seven kills and three blocks, while sophomore outside hitter Kelli Ell finished with six kills with no errors on 22 swings.

Freshman Taygon Jones led backrow efforts with 17 digs, while fellow frosh Sadie Portmann notched 12 digs, and Arrianna Fields was also in on three blocks.

Midwestern State plays host to Texas Woman's Wednesday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
