WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State opened up their 2022 season on a high note, claiming a victory over McMurry University. The Mustangs grabbed all seven points from the WarHawks to move to 1-0 on the season.
Anda Ghinga and
Emilija Visic recorded a 6-1 score over McMurry's Hope Turner and Andrea Smith at the top doubles spot.
Casie Curry and
Sydney Williams teamed up to secure a 6-1 victory over Hannah DeFriend and Bridgette Fly at No. 2 doubles.
Hannah Yip and
Skylar Minns shut out McKenzie Carroll and Emily Nuttal in the final play to register the doubles point for the Mustangs.
In singles play, Ghinga faced Turner in the No. 1 spot. The MSU sophomore tallied a 6-1, 6-0 win for the team's second point of the day.
Yip notched the third point for Midwestern State. The freshman defeated DeFriend 6-1, 6-2 in her collegiate debut.
At the third singles, Visic and Fly battled to a 6-0, 6-1 victory for the home side. MSU gained a 4-0 advantage over McM.
Curry tallied a 6-0, 6-2 score over Smith at the fifth singles line while Williams went 6-0, 6-1 over Nuttall at No. 5.
Minns collected the seventh and final point with her 6-0, 6-0 sweep against Carroll.
Midwestern State continues their run at home with a match against Seward County Community College. The Mustangs and the Saints face-off on Thursday, Feb. 3 with first serve set for 1 p.m.
