WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State notched a great team victory over McMurry on Friday afternoon at MSU Tennis Center. The Mustangs went 7-0 over the WarHawks to open up their 2022 season.
Ben Westwick and
Alex Martinez Roca teamed up at the top doubles position to clinch a 6-0 victory over Chase Daniell and Reid Smith.
Brice Bradshaw and newcomer
Marcal Miret Avante tallied a 6-2 win at the No. 2 doubles line. They faced Connor Hogan and Dylan Bryant. The Mustang duo of
Brandon Wall and
Charles Heffernan clinched the doubles point with a 6-1 win against the WarHawks' Trent Lewis and Jonathan Arzuaga.
Bradshaw claimed the second point of the day with his 6-2, 6-0 defeat of Daniell at the top singles line.
Stefan Andrei tallied a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Smith. The No. 2 singles win clinched the third team point for MSU.
Matthew Abbey kept the ball rolling at the third singles line. The freshman went 6-2, 6-0 over Hogan.
Wall and Bryant played to a 6-0, 6-0 victory for Midwestern State to secure the fifth point in the match.
Jean Muniz and Heffernan both completed 6-0, 6-0 wins at the fifth and sixth spots to record the seven-point victory for the Mustangs. They overcame Arzuaga and Lewis for the win.
Midwestern State continues their home stand through mid-February. The Mustangs face Seward County Community College on Thursday, Feb. 3 at MSU Tennis Center. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
