WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- In the second of three non-conference matches against Lone Star Conference opponents, Midwestern State (6-1) contests Lubbock Christian (3-3) at Stang Park. The Wednesday night match kicks off at 7:30 p.m.

FIVE STORY LINES

1 |  Trevor Amann still leads the Mustangs with six goals and adds three assists for 15 points on the year. The senior sits second in the Lone Star Conference in total points and points per game (2.14) to earn 18th and 15th in NCAA Division II. Amann collected 33 shots to average a conference second-highest and NCAA sixth best 4.71 shots per game. His 14 shots on goal translates to two per game for a third rank in the LSC and 16th in DII. Amann tallied two-goal matches against Missouri S&T (9/02) and Rogers State (9/11) and clutched the game-winners in both games. The clinchers earns him second in the conference. On his career, the senior recorded 18 goals and eight assists for 44 points over three seasons. Amann has 108 shots with 50 going on goal in 2253 minutes on the field. He has four game winners to his name thus far.

Fernando Flores and Luciano Rodriguez lead Lubbock Christian with two goals a piece. Flores has ten shots with five on goal while Rodriguez notched ten shots with eight landing on target.

2 |  Carlos Flores is close behind Amann with 13 points on the season, split into four goals and five assists. His helpers leads the Lone Star Conference and lands tenth in NCAA Division II play. In points, the senior hold fourth in the conference and 31st in the NCAA. Flores copped 13 shots with six landing on target for a 0.462 shot on goal percent. In 590 minutes, the midfielder holds one game winning goal, which was earned against Westminster (9/16). In his career, Flores put together 20 goals and 27 assists for 112 points while at Midwestern State. His helpers is tied for seventh with Jake Joy's record from 1994-96 in MSU's all-time career assists list. With his 112 career shots, Flores is tied with Anthony Ramirez (2001-04) and Ahmad Ihmeidan (2004-08) in the all-time record book for the Mustangs. 

Fernando Flores has the top assists for the Chaps with three on the year. The senior gained two against Adams State (9/04) and one against Oklahoma Christian (9/22).

3 |  Marc-Antoine Huzen has started in goal for Midwestern State all seven matches. In 630 minutes, the senior allowed seven goals for a 1.00 goals against average. Huzen's GAA is third in the Lone Star Conference and 52nd in NCAA Division II. The keeper has 20 saves on the season against 55 shots faced for a 0.741 save percent (fifth best in the conference and 74th in the NCAA). He registered a season-high five saves against 12 shots against Northeastern State (9/09). Huzen punched a LSC sixth-best 2.86 saves per game in 2021. Overall, he has six wins and one loss with four shutouts to lead the Lone Star Conference and sit fifth in DII. In his career, Huzen accumulated 32 saves, 12 wins and a 0.75 GAA. With three more wins, the senior can tie Brian Blair's (2000) 15 career wins to sit tenth on MSU's all-time book.

Braxton Thorne started the last four matches for LCU between the posts. The senior is 3-1 with a 0.73 goal against average on the season. He has three shutouts with 16 total saves and a 0.842 save percent.

4 |  In the Mustangs' 6-1 season, the team has 2.86 assists per game, which MSU leads the conference and sits seventh in NCAA Division II. The team also tops the LSC with 9.71 points per game, which earns them second in the NCAA. Midwestern State's 3.43 scoring offense gets second in the nation while sitting first in the Lone Star. Huzen and the Mustangs notched a 0.571 shutout percentage for first in the conference and ninth in Division II. The three other categories that MSU sits first in the conference include: total assists (20), total goals (24) and total points (68) to earn them seventh, second and fourth in NCAA Divsion II.

5 |  Midwestern State was recently named to the top 15 of the United Soccer Coaches College Rankings. In the first poll of the season, the Mustangs claimed the 23rd spot and quickly moved up the ranks from there. With defeats over No. 25 Northeastern State and No. 9 Rogers State, MSU were selected to No. 18 for the second poll of 2021. The team continued the climb after claiming victories against Westminster and No. 19 Simon Fraser in the MSU Classic.At No. 10, Midwestern State will fell in battle against No. 5 West Texas A&M to sit at No. 12. HEAD COACH MICHAEL MEACHUM is in the midst of his fourth season as head coach at Midwestern State and his 10th overall in Wichita Falls. He served the first seven years as top assistant for Doug Elder. During that time, Meachum helped the Mustangs reach two NCAA Division II South Central Region finals and to the national quarterfinals. Meachum boasts a 45-10-4 record (.797) since taking the reins of the program prior to the 2018 season. He has led the Mustangs to the 2018 Heartland Conference title, the 2019 Lone Star Conference postseason tournament crown and to two NCAA Division II postseason appearances in 2018 and 2019. Prior to MSU, Meachum served as an assistant at NAIA Bethany College (Kan.) and Hastings (Neb.), at Division I Oral Roberts and Division II Northeastern State.

SERIES WITH THE CHAPS

The series between Midwestern State and Lubbock Christian is fairly new with a start date of 9/15/2014. The Mustangs have never lost against the Chapperals, going 5-0-2 in seven meetings. At Stang Park, MSU is 2-0-1. The last win completed March 2, 2021 with Trevor Amann collecting a brace and Mere Escobar adding another goal. The two teams played to a draw in 2017 in Wichita Falls, Texas.
