MSU win streak ended by TAMUK sweep

KINGSVILLE, Texas -- Midwestern State's three match winning streak was snapped Saturday afternoon by Texas A&M-Kingsville as the Javelinas toppled the Mustangs 3-0 (17-25, 24-26, 20-25). MSU moves to 3-7 on the season.

In the first set, Midwestern State stood neck-in-neck with Texas A&M-Kingsville to start off. Tied at ten each, a four point streak gave the home side the boost they needed to finish the set 25-17.

Taylor Anderson notched two of her six kills in set one and concluded the night with a block assist. The senior also made a .308 hitting percentage. Reagan Willms led the Mustangs with 12 assists in three sets with Autumn Roach coming up close behind with 11. Roach also completed two aces for the visitors.

Nicole Murff had the only three service aces for the Javelinas and she also led with 18 digs.

MSU played battled until the very end of the second set, pushing TAMUK to a tie at 24 all. Back-to-back kills gave Texas A&M-Kingsville the 26-24 edge. Bourne recorded six kills in the set and ten overall. The sophomore also registered eight digs from the defensive side to top the Mustangs. Amy DeWalt had seven digs in the match.

Leading in kills for the Javelinas was Jackie Alanis who put down 11 total. Sydney Whitmire made 21 assists and Madeleine Stolzer registered 10.

In Midwestern State's final chance in the third set, the visitors held on up to a ten point tie. A five-point run by TAMUK helped them clinch the set 25-20 and the match. Hannah Moore had two of her four kills in the final set while Lissette Lefforge added a kill and service ace. Lefforge put forth four kills and two blocks on the night.

Allison Stachowiak notched ten kills and a .375 attack percent for Texas A&M-Kingsville. As a team, the Javelinas hit .303 with 39 kills and five blocks. The Mustangs collected 29 kills and 33 digs.

Midwestern State returns home on Sept. 24 and 25 for matches against No. 2 Angelo State and Lubbock Christian. D.L. Ligon Coliseum will host the Lone Star Confernce matches with a first serve time of 6 p.m. on Friday and 12 p.m. on Saturday.
