ADA, Okla. -- Midwestern State heads to East Central for their last tune up before beginning Lone Star Conference play next weekend. The Saturday, Sept. 18, match against the Tigers will kick-off at 1 p.m.

FIVE STORY LINES

1 | The two top scorers for the Mustangs are Cassidy Savoy and Jewell Lewis. Each have tallied two goals for four points on the season thus far. Savoy notched two goals against Northwestern Oklahoma State (9/2) in the team's 3-0 defeat over the Rangers. The sophomore has six shots in her 156 total minutes. Lewis added a brace in the 3-1 win over Regis (9/12). The freshman has four shots in her first year with the Mustangs and landed three on target. Both forwards are tied for fourth in the Lone Star Conference for .500 goals per game and 13th for points.

2 | Lexi Beck leads MSU with eight shots and six on goal. Her average of 1.50 shots on target per game sits eighth in the LSC. The midfielder has a .750 shot on goal percent on the year. In four games, Beck notched one goal for two points against Northwestern Oklahoma State (9/2) in a 82nd minute penalty kick. Her season-high shots was also at NWOKS where she tallied five shots and landed four on goal. Overall, Beck has played in 322 minutes for the Mustangs.

3 | Taylor Camp has been a solid figure for Midwestern State in goal for the past two years. In 2021, the senior has tallied 22 saves, one shutout and two wins thus far. Camp made a season-high six saves in each match against Northwestern Oklahoma (9/2) and Central Oklahoma (9/4). Her .846 save percent is seventh in the Lone Star Conference while her 5.50 saves per game is third. In the shortened 2020 season, the keeper made 46 saves for a 0.697 save percent on the year. In her ten starts Camp collected one shutout last year and notched her highest save count (9) at West Texas A&M (3/6).

4 | Only four matches into the season, Midwestern State has already amounted six goals on the season, over halfway of their 11 goals from 2020. The team has also held their opponents to four goals to average one per game. Their opposition have 49 shots and 12.3 per game while MSU has 57 shots and an average of 14.3. The Mustangs have also outshone on the defensive end, overtaking their foes 22 saves to 16.

5 | East Central holds a 1-2 record for the 2021 season. The Tigers fell to Rogers State (9/2) and No. 3 Angelo State (9/9) and beat St. Mary's 1-0 on Sept. 11. Three players have tallied goals for ECU in Abbie Morris, Tanja Baubock and Lorianne Baugh. Morris adds an assist to lead the team in points with three. Morris and Baubock each have ten shots with Morris landing seven on goal and Baubock with five. Linea Andersen, Baylee Hensley and McKenna Leveling each played a full 90 on the season for the Tigers. Andersen notched six saves while Hensley made one and Leveling had eight. East Central was ranked fourth in the Great American Conference Preseason Poll for 2021. Baubock was named Player of the Year and Freshman of the year for 2020 when the Tigers went 4-6 on the season.

HEAD COACH RYAN SPENCE begins his fourth season as head coach at his alma mater. In the 2020 season, he led the Mustangs to the quarterfinals of the Lone Star Conference Tournament. As a player, Spence helped the Mustangs dominate in his four years on the field. He earned All-American from 2008-11 and helped the team reach the Final Four in 2010. His center back prowess assisted in gaining 35 shutouts in his tenure. After graduating with a bachelor's degree, he gained his masters from MSU in 2014-15. From there, Spence moved on as assistant coach at Texas A&M International in 2016 and head coach at Eastern New Mexico in 2017 before coming back to Midwestern State in 2018.
 
SERIES WITH THE TIGERS
Midwestern State leads the series gaining 14 wins and dropping only two games with one tie. The history between the Tigers and the Mustangs started in 1997 with MSU taking the 5-1 win in Wichita Falls, Texas. The away record for the Mustangs sits at 5-0-1 with the last trip to Ada, Okla., in 2008. The last meeting was in 2013 where Midwestern State collected the 3-2 victory over East Central at Stang Park.
