DENTON, Texas -- Midwestern State snapped a 38-game road losing streak by claiming a doubleheader sweep of Texas Woman's Saturday at Diane Baker Field.
The Mustangs won both games 5-2 to finish the season with a 15-27 record.
MSU won for the first time on the road since beating Lubbock Christian on Feb. 3, 2019. The Mustangs lost their their last 15 road games in 2019 and dropped all six road contests in 2020 before losing the first 17 road games this season.
Texas Woman's closes the campaign at 7-26 and 6-22 in league play. Both teams are eliminated for Lone Star Conference postseason tournament consideration.
GAME 1: Midwestern State 5, Texas Woman's 2
Jacey Henry and
Bailey Brenek recorded two hits each while
Ashley Turner drove in two runs to lift Midwestern State to a 5-2 win over Texas Woman's in Game No. 1.
Henry also improved to 7-6 in the circle limiting the Pioneers to two runs on seven hits in a complete game victory.
The Mustangs jumped on TWU starter Kelsie Briggs for two runs in the first inning capitalizing on a pair errors for the early lead.
MSU pushed the lead to 5-0 in the fourth frame highlighted by Turner's two-run single to center field after
Payton Griffin laced an RBI-single to left.
Texas Woman's responded single runs in the fourth and sixth innings.
Briggs (5-17) took te loss for the Pioneers allowing five runs on four hits in three innings before giving way to Tatum Quaker, who recorded four strikeouts in four innings of scoreless relief.
GAME 2: Midwestern State 5, Texas Woman's 2
Jacey Henry's three-run homer in the fifth inning provided the difference for Midwestern State in Game No. 2 as the Mustangs completed the sweep of Texas Woman's with another 5-2 victory.
Henry's blast proved all the support
Addi Hanna needed as the freshman allowed just two runs on five hits in the complete game victory to improve to 4-9 in the circle.
Hanna Hetherington staked the Mustangs to the early lead when her single up the middle plated
Marley Eller in the second inning.
TWU answered with the tying run on Leah Deaver's sacrifice fly in the third inning before Henry's homer gave the Mustangs control in the fifth.
Ashley Turner tacked on an insurance run for the Mustangs with an RBI-single up the middle in the seventh.
Henry and
Carson Solis had two hits each to pace the Mustangs' nine-hit attack.
Tatum Quaker (2-8) took the loss for TWU allowing two runs on five hits in four innings.
