SAN ANGELO, Texas – Quick starting Angelo State used a pair of dominant pitching performances to roll to a doubleheader sweep of Midwestern State Friday night Mayer Field.
The Rambelles (19-10, 11-7, LSC) pushed across five runs in the opening frame to cruise to a 10-2 win in five innings in Game No. 1, then Courtney Barnhill and Keilei Garcia launched long home runs in the first inning of Game No. 2 to propel the 'Belles to a 10-1 victory in five innings.
Makayla Hill limited the Mustangs to two runs on two hits in four innings to earn the win for Angelo State in the opener, then Genesis Armendariz and Victoria Vasquez combined to allow one un on three hits in the finale.
Kaitlyn Turner made her 16th appearance in the circle for Midwestern State in Game No. 1. The freshman put up three strikeouts in four innings pitched, continuing her streak of gaining at least two per game.
Carson Solis began the battle with a single to shortstop for the junior's 31st hit this season. She broke her three-game hit hiatus with the knock in the first inning.
The Belles racked up five runs in the first off three singles. Inkman responded with her first home run of the year in the second inning. The second basemen rounded in
Marley Eller to put the score at 2-5 with plenty of game to go.
Angelo State had a big fourth inning, driving in four runs. Two were off Keilei Garcia's homer to left field.
Addi Hanna started for the Mustangs in Game No. 2. The pitcher was in for the entire match, gaining two strikeouts in 25 batters faced.
Midwestern State closes the road swing with a pair of games against Lubbock Christian Saturday afternoon at PlainsCapital Park. First pitches are set for 1 and 3 p.m.
