WICHITA FALLS, Texas – No. 19 Midwestern State rolled to its first sweep of the season Thursday afternoon against UT Permian Basin at the MSU Tennis Center.
The Mustangs, who improved to 8-5 overall and to 3-1 in Lone Star Conference play, were never threatened by the Falcons (2-7, 0-1) taking all three doubles' matches by comfortable margins before capping off the victory in straight sets at all six singles lines.
Midwestern State continues league play Saturday at home against Western New Mexico. First serve is set for 9 a.m.
Alex Martinez Roca and
Alexandre Crepy took their second straight win at No. 1 doubles defeating Jorge Garcia and Hector Flores 6-1 before
Brice Bradshaw and
Quentin Scharfenberg teamed up for a 6-3 win over Enrique Sanchez and Roberto Garcia at No. 3.
Ben Westwick and
Angel Palacios wrapped up doubles' play taking a 6-3 win over Adita Iyer and Paul Schwieger at the No. 2 line.
Crepy grabbed the second point with a 6-0, 6-1 put over on Roberto Garcia. The freshman has only lost two duals this year at the number four singles spot.
No. 43 Martinez Roca outlasted Sanchez 6-0, 6-2. This counted for his fourth straight win in singles play. Midwestern State now stood at 3-0, needing only one more point to seal the deal against the Falcons.
Westwick provided the tally in his 6-2, 7-5 battle with Jorge Garcia. This is the sophomore's first play and win at the third spot for the Mustangs.
Iyer and No. 5 Palacios participated in a close match at the second line. In the end, the senior came out on top with a 7-6, 6-3 defeat to grab MSU the fifth team score.
Scharfenberg took his third straight win for Midwestern State against Schwieger (6-1, 6-2).
Jean Muniz rounded out the day with the final victory for the home side. The junior took his second singles match by storm with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Antonio Simo. Muniz is undefeated for singles play in 2021.
