WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State men's tennis had two matches against no. 18 Southeastern Oklahoma and Oklahoma Baptist on Friday, March 5. The 22nd best team in the country did not allow a point for either visiting team. MSU won 4-0 over SEO and 7-0 over OBU at MSU Tennis Center.
Against Southeastern Oklahoma, the Mustangs grabbed the doubles point and the first three singles points as well.
Alex Martinez Roca and
Alexandre Crepy beat George Botha and Marin Jurkovic at number one doubles, 6-1. Number two doubles saw
Ben Westwick and
Angel Palacios defeated no. 25 Manuel Pilotto and Juan Scoppetta 6-1. Number three doubles went unfinished between
Brice Bradshaw and
Quentin Scharfenberg, and Thabo Ncube and Guilherme Dos Santos. Bradshaw and Scharfenberg grabbed the first set 4-3 before the second was canceled.
The order of finish for doubles was two then one.
At number one singles, no. 43 Martinez Roca won over no. 34 Scoppetta 4-6, 6-0, 6-3 in a three set thriller. Number two singles was unfinished between Westick and Dos Santos in the fourth set (4-6, 7-6, 0-3).
No. 5
Angel Palacios beat Botha 6-1, 6-1 at number three singles. Four singles saw Crepy pull the upset over no. 9 Pilotto 6-3, 7-6. Number five singles was unfinished after the first 4-5 set, going to Marin Jurkovic over
Alberto Diaz. Number six singles between Ncube and Scharfenberg was not able to start before MSU clinched the game.
Singles finished in the order of: 3, 4, 1.
Against Oklahoma Baptist, the team continued the win streak and grabbed all seven points.
Martinez Roca and Crepy defeated Kaey-Den Tan and Aaron Brewer 6-0 at number one doubles. Number two doubles saw Palacios and Westwick overthrow Matthew Ford and Rhett Rollins 6-2. In the 6-2 win, Bradshaw and Scharfenberg beat Christian Siegle and Kyler Melton.
The order of finish for doubles was one, three, two.
On the singles' side, the team swept all six matches. Brewer fell to no. 43 Martinez Roca 1-6, 6-1, 1-6 at number one singles. Westick took on Tan at number two singles. Westwick won out 6-2, 6-4.
Palacios (no. 5) beat Rollins 6-0, 6-2 at number three singles. Number four singles was Crepy against Ford. The final score was 6-0, 6-0 in favor of Crepy.
Diaz won 6-2, 6-2 over Siegle at number five singles. The final singles match was Scharfenberg versus Melton. The ending score was 6-1, 6-1 in favor of Scharfenberg.
Singles finished in the order of: 4, 3, 1, 2, 5, 6.
The Mustangs' next match is against Southern Arkansas in Wichita Falls, Texas. The MSU Tennis Center will host on Saturday, March 6, starting at 3 p.m.
