LAWTON, Okla. – Midwestern State continued its perfect run in Lone Star Conference play with a 6-1 win over Cameron Friday afternoon at the Streich-Henry Tennis Complex.
The victory ran the Mustangs current winning streak to six matches as MSU pushed its season record to 6-4.
Tiffany Hollebeck and
Casie Curry started the match off with a 6-4 win at number one doubles. The pair defeated Alisa Savina and Lea Manga for their eighth straight win at the first spot.
Emilija Visic and
Anda Ghinga followed up with a 6-3 defeat of Melany Opolz and Karolina Glowinska. This marks Visic and Ghinga's seventh win at number two doubles.
With the first two wins, MSU grabbed the doubles point.
Ethne Dowling and
Kyndall Quiroz dropped their battle at the third double spot. Pilar Jaurena and Alex Lopez took the set 7-5.
The Mustangs sustained a 1-0 lead heading into singles play. Hollebeck continued the scoring run with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Savina at number one singles. The senior posted wins in her last three singes battles.
Visic put Midwestern State up by three with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Julianne Garcia. The freshman took over at number four singles while her doubles partner, Ghinga, had it on lockdown at the second singles spot. Ghinga overtook Manga 6-3, 6-4 to put MSU up by four.
The Aggies grabbed their first point of the match with a win at the third singles spot. Lopez beat out no. 43 Curry 7-6, 6-3.
Quiroz won her second straight singles battle at the fifth spot. She took out Opolz by a score of 6-4, 6-4. With only one more set to finish, the Mustangs led 5-1.
Skylar Minns finished the match off with the final win for Midwestern State. The freshman won her fifth straight match at number six singles. Jaurena got the first set 6-2 and Minns grabbed the final two 6-3 and 10-6 in a superset tiebreaker. She secured the 6-1 victory for MSU.
The Mustangs take on Arkansas-Fort Smith Saturday morning at the Fort Smith Athletic Club. First serve is set for 10 a.m.
