FORT SMITH, Ark. – Midwestern State continues their unbeaten Lone Star conference run with a shutout of Arkansas-Fort Smith on Saturday morning. The 17th ranked team is now 3-0 in conference play after gaining all seven points against the Lady Lions.
Kyndall Quiroz and
Ethne Dowling started the success for the Mustangs with a 6-0 win at the third doubles spot. The pair overtook Chloe Ruppanner and Camila Borrero for their first doubles win at the third position.
Tiffany Hollebeck and
Casie Curry also completed their number one doubles match against Joanna Potet and Petra Csixmadia by 6-2. This makes nine matches that the Mustang duo recorded a win.
Anda Ghinga and
Emilija Visic clinched the doubles point for MSU when they took the second doubles spot by a 6-2 score. The defeat of Bianca Koen and Milena Achlamov marks the ninth win for Ghina and Visic of eleven matches.
With the point, Midwestern State took the 1-0 lead heading into singles play.
Curry gained the second point of the day with her 6-1, 6-3 win at three singles. The no. 43 ranked player got her groove back against Ruppanner after dropping her singles battle against Cameron.
Visic then took her third straight victory at number four singles. The freshman overtook Achlamov 6-1 in both sets. This put the Mustangs up by three.
The next win came from Ghinga against Potet at the second singles spot. Since March 5, Ghinga has not lost a singles match and the 6-0, 6-3 victory adds to the streak. MSU grabbed the fourth point of the match, certifying the win.
To finish out the remainder of play, Hollebeck broke Koen in the top singles spot by a 6-1, 6-3 score. The senior is undefeated in Lone Star singles play.
Quiroz also hasn't taken a loss in LSC play with another achievement added. The freshman put up a 6-3, 6-2 score over Csizmadia to earn the team's sixth point of the match.
Dowling rounded out the day with the final win and point for Midwestern State. The sophomore took her first conference singles sets by 6-4 and 6-3 over Borrero. The Lions drop their third conference match of the year.
The Mustangs will look for revenge in their next match against Central Oklahoma. The teams competed at the beginning of the season back in February to a 7-0 loss for MSU. This time around, the match will take place in Wichita Falls for a home-side advantage. The non-conference match is set for Wednesday, March 31.
