Mustangs drops two to No. 16 Oklahoma Christian

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – No. 16 Oklahoma Christian flexed its offensive muscle cruising to a doubleheader sweep of Midwestern State Friday at Mustangs Park.

The Eagles extended the Mustangs' slide to 12 games claiming 13-0 and 7-2 wins as MSU MSU fell to 11-15.

Jacey Henry began the series on the mound for MSU. The junior pitched all five innings before the run rule took place.

Five runs in the first inning was a big hurt for Midwestern State. Brooklyn Bain homered on her first appearance at the plate, to put the Eagles up first. Then with two runners on, Brianna Robison swung far for another homer. She drove in three RBIs to put OC up by four. The last score was by Lindsey Stoeckel who reached home on an error by the Mustangs.

MSU tallied three quick outs from the batter's box and were back in the field. A triple by Whitne Walde pushed in another run for Oklahoma Christian.

Henry registered the first hit for Midwestern State in the bottom of the second. Her single up the middle could not follow up and the runner was left on base. This counted as her 18th hit of the season.

Three more runs ensued in the top of the third on doubles from Aaliyah Brown, Tristyn Hamilton, and Brie Dunckel. OC added four more in the top of the fourth.

Ashley Turner grabbed another hit for the Mustangs with a single to center field, marking five straight games with a ding. Mattye Tyler joined her on base with a walk and Henry was hit by a pitch. This proved to be the best scoring chance for MSU, but the team could not convert.

The first game ended 13-0 in five innings. Against 35 batters, Henry surrendered 14 hits, 13 runs, 4 strikeouts and one walk. Kali Crandall pitched four innings with two hits, eight strikeouts, and one walk. Stoeckel finished the last inning with one strikeout on three batters faced.

Midwestern State put up a much better fight in the second game and started with Addi Hanna on the mound.

Bain wound up again for a homer in the first, this time driving in a pair of RBI. Walde followed with a run-scoring single to post the Eagles to a 3-0 lead.

Carson Solis recorded a single up the middle and Henry was hit by another pitch to put runners on base. Unfortunately, nothing came and the teams moved on to the second.

An error by MSU allowed the Eagles to score their fourth run. Two doubles in the third put the score at 6-0, with Midwestern State needing some catch-up.

Daylan Inkman reached on an error in the bottom of the third. Turner walked and Henry was hit by the third pitch of the day. With three runners on, Bailey Brenek was up to the plate. Luckily, another walk came and Inkman put MSU up on the board.

A second run came in Brenek's solo homer in the bottom of the fifth. This was her second homer of the year and sixth of her career.

Marley Eller and Solis each garnered hits in the bottom of the sixth but could not score. Solis put up three hits for MSU in the match, her most in a single game. The final score of the evening ended 2-7 with the Eagles the victor.

Bailey Turner started the first 3.2 innings for OC and managed four strikeouts, two hits, and one run. Crandall grabbed the win with three hits, one run, three strikeouts on 13 batters faced.

Hanna totaled six runs on eight hits on 18 batters faced. Kaitlyn Turner came in for relief with one run on two hits, two strikeouts in four innings.

The team is back at Mustangs Park on Sunday, March 28, for a double header against Cameron. The Lone Star Conference games kick off at 1 and 3 p.m.
